Connecting water

Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere; we have a 2018 Unicorn Cadiz,  currently on a winter seasonal pitch. Could I ask advice on connecting the water tap on our pitch direct to the van  without having to carry water daily please. I've seen it done often enough  on site, but need to know what bits to buy. Many thanks.

    Personally with possible freezing winter weather I would not leave a hose connected. Hoses freeze easier than aquarolls. I would simply use the hose to top up aquaroll as and when.

    I think you need something like this although I would agree with Easy T about the dangers of freezing hosepipes.

    Over Christmas and in February we use the 15mm foam insulation from eg Wickes along the pipe and also a tap insulated jacket as we've had the tap freeze a few times.

    The above is fitted into the barrel and works on the same principal as a water tank in a house. We use a direct feed that doesnt need the barrel.

    We do keep 5 litres of water in the van just incase ...

    We preferred  the system that fits in the barrel, pictured above. Just a personal choice, there are pros and cons to both systems.

    We  had the tap or hose freeze a few times overnight. However, they always thawed out during the day. Unless of course you get a beast from the east, when I wouldn't bother. If you can get a pitch where you will get morning sun ( if any is going ) on the plumbing, it is a definite advantage. If freezing overnight, just make sure you disconnect everything the night before leaving. The one time I didn't, it took ages packing up. Bar hard pipes / waste tubes, are not easy to deal with.

    The taps on the bollard can also freeze, some sites have them in a wooden insulated box but I had a metal tap freeze up a year last November. Easily fixed though.

    We were away during the Beast from the East II on a CL that had a tap at each pitch. Every tap froze, though the blue plastic pipework to them was OK, there was enough hot water in our kettle to defrost us 😃
