I can assure you that I do not have a 'skewed' agenda'. I have happily used the club insurance for over 40 years. What I do have is experience of an insurance dispute and the best part of 9 months using the legal route to get a justified settlement amount. The only other insurance dispute was eventually resolved to my satisfaction in a little over 2 weeks.

I was always pleased with CC's insurance. And as you probably aware, I am not one to generally decry the club as I have always been well satisfied with them over many years

Mine was a rock solid claim as well. If it were not do you think I would have taken legal action?

Before I started legal action the offered settlement was insufficient to replace my 12 month old motorcycle with one of similar age. They were offering below best condition and it was best condition. They were not offering a proper replacement of 12 month old Belstaff jacket, leggings, jeans, crash helmet. They were not offering to pay my lost part time wages for about 30 hours a week, I was earning as much from them as from my part time job. Can't lay lawns and patios or do a Littlewoods pools round with several broken bones in my foot and on two crutches - I don't remember now whether I was doing a sea food round at that time but I think that I was. I also worked several evenings a week doing keeping accounts and other things. I could give concrete evidence of most of this by way of checks but I only had my own accounts of earnings but doubtless my supplier had details. I considered the payment for my injuries too low.

For our 3 year old caravan i used compare the market and several other similar sites. Ended up a lot cheaper using Happyplace.co.uk via a quote from compare the market. No doubt as per car insurance it will require changing to a different company each year to get the best price. Club cover was £1-200 more!

What made you change Footloosery? Was it to get a better price?

If it is a motorhome it will be. Who are you covered by Dave?

Haven’t read anything on this thread that would convince me to cancel my policy.  No response required

Not intending that any body should be scared Just finding ideas for an Insurer which I have. It is unlikely to present a problem OP but having had to fight for what in today's money was North of £5K I would sooner let an ombudsman handle any possible dispute.

I then went on to explain why

For Caravans they (LV) are regulated by Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) about whom I know little.

For Cars regulated by Financial Ombudsman

Like all financial product provides they are also regulated by FCA

I am sure that they would give a carefully crafted statement. Never rely on a salesman to tell you how good his product is I am sure that they would not lie but would chose to omit any detail that might put perspective purchasers off. A bit like caravan salesmen

I have been insured with them for over 30 years had 2 claims no problem. One was when I got home from a week away the side of the caravan had about 20 small dents in the side. I had no idea how they came to be there. They paid no problem even though I couldn’t explain.

According to Wikipedia: Prudential regulation is a type of financial regulation that requires financial firms to control risks and hold adequate capital as defined by capital requirements, liquidity requirements, by the imposition of concentration risk (or large exposures) limits, and by related reporting and public disclosure requirements ...

From the link below it seems that there role with insurance is principally to ensure that a firm maintains sufficient assets to meet claims. Presumably CMC is covered by their Group insurance as I don't think that they list PRA as a regulator

Yes I remember. I’ve had time to consider and I’ve changed my mind.  Once dozens of club members tell us their claims haven’t been paid then I reserve the right to change my mind again

I wouldn't lose any sleep Dave as LV are about to be swallowed up by Allianz Insurance, one of the biggest insurers in Europe. I think the deal is expected to be fully finalised by the end of the year. The new owners may well retain the LV name but I don't know that for a fact.

I’d rather lose a few quid cancellation fee rather then end up potentially losing my house and seeking bankruptcy.

I saved about £17 David wink not that it was important - Just had renewal offer today.

rather then end up potentially losing my house and seeking bankruptcy.

Filing for bankruptcy is something that I suggested my youngest daughter to do. Her partner, probably 10 years ago Had a rented Flat. He was supposedly at college. She had some work and gave him money for gas, rent, rates etc. They had other joint debts that she was unaware had not been paid.

He had been pocketing the money and of course all mail was addressed to him from landlord and Housing rates. It was when he turned to drugs and started to abusive that she walked out. We did not know what debts might have been run up as she left no forwarding address. I paid her court  cost - can't remember how much as it was about 10 years ago. We contacted phone companies, council etc and reckoned total bill about £5,000. I did not want to bail her out by effectively paying the b******s debts. It would have been ridiculous to pay twice with money that she did not have. She had a number of poorly paying jobs. Presumably the debtors could chase her ex if they could find him. When al came to light and was disclosed the Debts amounted to close to £7,000. We attended court to hand over paperwork and later for the hearing which was very informal in front of the judge who was happy for me to ask questions etc. I suppose it took about 40 mins in court. He was discharged after 12 months spent with overview of official receiver's office. She had nothing to lose. The bankruptcy should be about to be cleared from her credit score.

I did not change but simply never had club insurance. For all types of insurance i always go for several quotes each year and read the small print to check I get what I want at a price I am willing to pay. This does mean spending many hours on a computer and more often than not changing companies each year. It is amazing the companies that you use then set a high renewal premium and when you change a year later to get you back have a low premium. Any compeny that will not initially quote on line I ignore.

brave move having two insurance policies live at one time David, with cars anyway, not sure about caravans. Heaven forbid that you have to make a claim within that time, but could be interesting.
