It's now obvious to me that certain contributors have not read the policy documents related to Caravan Cover. It seems that you could be providing misleading information yourselves?

David, no insurance company pays out on 100% of claims and I fear you’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise. There’s always small print to give them an element of discretion to reject inappropriate claims. Otherwise, the company would leave themselves wide open to abuse by fraudsters.

I think may/will is a bit of a red herring here as, in reality, it’s always ‘may’.

    Well said corners

Ok first you say promise, then when challenged you say implied. Actually I didn't even imply (def: suggestion rather than explicit reference).

I was replying to DD when I stated no more, it was in a quote to him and therefore addressed and specified to him. I think you inferred it was to all but again incorrectly, as proved again by this post. All clear now?

    Always happy to helpsmile

No need to attack others in asking questions David, faithful?

This has already been answered for you - to be more honest, and that is to be commended. If you don't keep to your conditions your policy will not pay out, no matter how many wills there are.

I wonder why you keep going on about this. You have chosen what you think is best, and I assume you are happy, lets others do the same?

I have to laugh at those posters who no matter what will defend the indefensible when it is very obvious that there is an issue with the CAMC caravan cover.

Even Rowena admits that they still use the insurance email addresses which in itself is very misleading despite  this so called caravan Cover being around for quite awhile.

Why aren't people who phone in told that they are buying Caravan Cover and not an insurance policy and is not regulated as an insurance policy.  This should be made very clear at the beginning of the conversation when inquiring about caravan insurance.

Also on the website for the quote one of the questions is "You have not been refused insurance or imposed an increased premium or special terms and conditions" which again makes you think that you are dealing with an insurance policy.  Nowhere does it make it clear that you are NOT buying an insurance policy.

If you launch a new product make sure you have everything in place before launching it lime email address and staff specific to the product!

Too easy a question DD. What is a better question is why so little clarity from the club.

I read a club statement that says that there is no direct recourse to the ombudsman.

I read a statement that says they have a policy with Bridges to cover in the event that the club are not able to meat a claim financially.

I read a statement from the club that a member may be able to take a claim to the financial ombudsman using third party cover from Bridges based on a policy that I have not seen and which the club says is to cover them in the instance that they cannot finance a claim.

Now here is a harder question based on the above, seemingly conflicting statements from CMC.

If Builders Insurance is to cover the club in case of financial difficulty then how likely is the third party aspect to be of use to a member in the event of a dispute with the club and the club not calling on their Bridges Insurance in the first place due to CMC being solvent?

Why aren't people who phone in told that they are buying Caravan Cover and not an insurance policy and is not regulated as an insurance policy.  This should be made very clear at the beginning of the conversation when inquiring about caravan insurance.

If that is the case Surfer it sees very strange indeed. I would have expected that to be a standard disclosure during a telephone conversation. I presume that they state that they are not regulated by the Ombudsman Service during the call?

Caravan cover top questions on club page

What's the difference between Caravan Cover from the Caravan and Motorhome Club and caravan insurance?

As we are a membership organisation, and caravan cover is not a legal requirement, we have been able to establish a product just for our members where all aspects of cover are dealt with by the Club.

For example, if you make a claim you would be dealing with the Club rather than a third party organisation.

We provide Caravan Cover on a discretionary basis which means our Board has full discretion over whether to agree to pay claims and the amounts to be paid. They may also agree to pay claims outside the terms and conditions of the cover if they feel the circumstances justify it. It is not a contract of insurance.

Despite it being on a web page I would expect the same statement in telephone dealing. Surfer says that it isn;t. Most strange

Over the years only two problems with insurance. One with Direct Line 25 years ago that was amicably resolved and one 30 years ago where I started court proceedings. No intention of having problems with unregulated CC cover

Well despite all this talk the main proof is in the pudding, are the CAMC still paying out OK on claims since the change?

I haven't seen many if any posts here stating they aren't paying, are the repairers having problems getting paid for the repairs? Anyone seen evidence they aren't?

I do know a certain genuine insurance company dealing with horses and cows who definitely don't pay out!

I don't and do not think that there will be. But I have had disagreements twice with insurance companies and do prefer a regulated company

No idea - have you? Bottom line for me is if I have a dispute my only recourse is legal rather than Ombudsman
