Caravan Club Non Insurance Policy

Certainly never been asked for my insurance at our storage, although the T&C's state it must be insured. Do the loan companies check your insurance when you purchase a caravan through them? I know they want proof when you buy a car.
As long as third party claims for the storage and value of the van claims for the loan company were met, I don't suppose there would be an issue.
Surely to protect themselves, the onus is on the storage site / loan company to check and satisfy it meets their requirements.

Thanks for that AD, as I said, so many variables.
Like you, we fell foul of CC insurance. It was Insurance, not Cover. We thought we had jumped through all of the hoops to get the “match other providers” criteria, but after agreeing things, the demands for extra documentation started, and it started to become farcical, so we said no and walked away.
One of our “no claims” history has changed this year. A vehicle that accrued all those no claims has been sold, and for some reason, neither Club would allow this to be transferred to MH, used less, same driver named as first name on MH. So we had to walk away. Other reputable firms were quite happy to do this, so we kept the “no claims” element. You never seem to be comparing like for like.

In the latest email from CaMC, an advert describes the following:-
Award winning Insurance & Cover
We’ve just been awarded Best Caravan Cover provider and Best Motorhome Insurance provider at the 2019 Insurance Choice Awards.
Being curious..I looked up the the Awards and discovered they were run by Smart Money People which was founded in 2014 by Michael Fotis.
Under the 11 Product Specific Categories...one is entitled:-
Best Caravan Cover Provider: The Caravan & Motorhome Club, Caravan Guard & The Insurance Emporium
Given that i am thinking about renewing my policy with Caravan Guard I contacted them to confirm if their policy was an Insurance Policy or an In-house non insurance policy...they confirmed it is an insurance policy and are regulated by FS..
Don't quote me but I did read further about the awards that some 16000 people had voted for the Insurance Choices..

Snap David. Price same a caravan club - no tracker or hitch lock required but Alko hub lock. Minor accident this year admitted to but no claim made
Interestingly I got a quote for car insurance as well. An 'indicative quote' as my renewal date is not that close. Initially I said that after having been with them previously I had become sick and tired of considerable increases, phoning up, speaking to customer service and being asked to e-mail a lower quote and so one year I phoned them and stopped renewal. Apparently though I can have price fixed for 3 years with a £50 discount each year. Quote for X-Trail £171

Did you know that you can delay effecting the overseas cover on Saga Caravan policy until you need it thereby only paying a pro-rata rate for it?
Saga do just act as a broker but have claims settlement authority. Plus they will pay for repatriation costs, up to a limit, for the caravan from abroad if it suffers accidental damage, something the CCs policy never did (don't know if that is still the case).

Totally different scenario Dave. Years ago I took legal action against an insurance company. They paid up before the court case. I would have felt less comfortable taking court action based on a document that says (paraphrasing for brevity ) ' we may pay out but totally at our discretion'. I would be far happier if they substituted 'will' for may' rater than other way round. I would not expect to have to take legal action to obtain a satisfactory pay out but then I didn't expect that previously!

Perhaps the CC need to wake up an realise that many members are not happy with their in house Caravan Cover. IMHO it is as bad as the rebranding and buying Allan Rogers!
The question is why do they never consult members about changes that they are considering?

...many members are not happy...
Just wondering how you can say that? Do you have insider information?
All you can possibly say is that there are unhappy members posting on CT, unless you really do have some inside information you're not sharing?
Taking the (haven't counted) 10 to 20 (?) posters on here and taking that to many members is a little fanciful?
I am am sure that the club will keep a careful eye on how popular and profitable its cover is and base (as always) its course of action based on reality not which is posted on here?
And of course many members may not even have the club's cover anyway.

This is amazing David. that even if you put in an invalid claim it 'will pay' out? Just because it says will it will always pay out?
I wonder which wording is actually more honest?
At the end of the day one pays for what one thinks is best.

I just had a quick read through the details, via "caravan cover" on the top tool bar. I can't see what the problem is, in fact, the cover could be more generous than insurance deals as it says it may take into account details that aren't covered. I'm not quoting so my words aren't exact but "insurance" will only cover the agreed parameters. The terms of an insurance which states "will" is only under the agreed terms. The club cover "may" be more flexible in certain circumstances.

so will will trump may in an invalid claim?

As others have said language is important, not pedantic
David, if as you say this is important don't attack the poster rudely but respond to the point?
I see polite discourse with you is impossible

David, no insurance company pays out on 100% of claims and I fear you’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise. There’s always small print to give them an element of discretion to reject inappropriate claims. Otherwise, the company would leave themselves wide open to abuse by fraudsters.
I think may/will is a bit of a red herring here as, in reality, it’s always ‘may’.

The problem for me is that the club clearly states that the cover is not regulated by the Financial Ombudsman. In the event of a dispute not being resolved the only recourse is legal action. As I stated early I have started legal action with an insurance company in the past as a third party.
I would have jess confidence in doing so with regard to a contract that clearly says the cover may payout solely at the company's discretion.
Using the term 'Will' does not prevent the company being flexible and to think it does is wrong. When I had a car written off I was offered top book value by the insurance company. After some discussion they reviewed and offered 20% increase based on superb condition. This was 25 years ago and the car was far from young.

Of course no company pays out on inappropriate claims but I don't think that david was referring to that aspect.
If you look at the ombudsman insurance claims judgements you will see some obviously inappropriate claims rejected. Twin axle caravan stolen when fitted with only one wheel lock s admitted to buy its owner.
Chap claiming for permanent disability after losing a single foot when the policy clearly states that payment for total disability is only if two limbs or part of is amputated above wrist or ankle.

Tamato/tomayto. This thread does seem to be generating a disproportionate number of posts. I always regard 'any' insurance with a degree of scepticism when it comes to making a claim. As for CAMC cover, I've always found any of their quotes way too expensive.
