Newcastle Upon Tyne
Hi All,
We're going to an event at St James Park in Newcastle upon Tyne next summer & want a site close to or with good public transport to St James. It can be Club site, CL or a commercial. We've never toured anywhere near Newcastle so we thought we'd ask you good folk for some ideas.
So very close to St James park or with a reliable bus/ train service.
Thanks
PS I've just checked Old Hartley and it's full on the weekend we want

Try Sandhaven (South Shields) public transport is usually good around Newcastle. Hope you find somewhere suitable! If a vacancy comes up at Old Hartley there is a good bus service to Newcastle centre a few minutes from the site. The metro is another way to get around when looking at routes and sites.

Thanks for that tip, it could make a good alternative to Old Hartley, at least the pitches are better! It also seems to have as good transport connection. Link her if anyone is interested http://www.northumbrianleisure.co.uk/sandhaven-holiday-park/touring-information/

Hi Fatbelly. Couple of years ago, I commuted back and forth from Newcastle, so we needed a site not too far from Newcastle mainline station. We did some research, and using the Metro is a great way to get around. We actually stayed on a CL near Morpeth, but my OH used to drop me off at Newcastle Airport Metro station, and I took the Metro train into the City centre and got my mainline train from there. There is a dedicated Metro station for St James Park, which is the Airport side of the City. If Old Hartley remains booked up, then this just might give you an option, to use Metro, depending on the timings of your event. I will try and post a link to the Metro map, and you can take a look and see if it will suit.
Trains run all down the Tyne Valley, into central Newcastle, so even as far out as Hexham is easy via trains then a few stops on Metro. Might just give you more options, but depends on your event and train links of course.😁
Here’s a link to Metro map. It’s like London Underground, only a lot nicer and far less busy.

I have just had a look at bookings for Old Hartley next year in Summer. There is only one night, May 23rd that is showing fully booked, every other date has a pitch available. What I did notice was that initially the bookings came up as full, then after a few seconds reverted to not full!
Personally, we never rely upon the automated booking system, but give the site a call direct to check availability. We have only failed once to get a pitch, despite automated system showing full. So it really does pay to phone and check.😁

Could think about the Durham club site, there is a park and ride near to it, a few minutes drive from the site, or park at the rail station then a 20 minute train to Newcastle, walk up from the station, or metro.
