Caravan Club Non Insurance Policy
A simple question. As the caravan club no longer offer caravan insurance as such what suggestions for a new insurer that does.

Was discussing this on another forum yesterday and a poster asked what is the legal difference between cover and insurance ?
Does anyone have a definitive answer ? I certainly do not know.
Easy T, I have the same concerns.
Vic's finance agreement will not accept the "clubs" cover as the caravan has to be fully insured.
Looks like renewing with Safeguard at the moment.

Contact them & ask if they’re regulated by the FCA(financial conduct authority)👍🏻

It seems that last week we were silly enough to take out this "caravan cover" and on receiving the documents I admit that I did not read the fine print thinking that we were insured.
In another forum it was pointed out that we only had caravan cover and not caravan insurance. On reading the booklet I then discovered that cover was offered as follows;
We offer cover on a discretionary basis which means that your Executive Committee has sole and absolute discretion on deciding claims and may accept or reject claims in its discretion. It also means that the Executive Committee may, in its discretion, agree a claim which falls outside the terms of the Caravan Cover, or which may even be expressly excluded, if the circumstances warrant it. The discretionary cover we provide is not a contract of insurance, and The Caravan Club Limited is not regulated as an insurance company.
Obviously the above statement in the booklet is of great concern to us as our caravan is now not insured and is only covered whatever that means.
We now have to shop around for a proper insurance company that is regulated, but in the meantime we have no insurance!
BTW when I phoned in on more than one occasion I used the term insured and not once was I corrected. On the 31st I needed to make an inquiry about a clause and wrote in an email "We have recently taken out insurance with the club and having perused the documents we have a concern regarding the Alarm Clause. It specifically refers to sensors on the corner steadies being activated when leaving the caravan and this is a dilemma for us." Again I was not corrected however we are now very concerned and will have a sleepless weekend until I can arrange insurance on the Monday.

Possibly pointless if I have a contract with them that clearly states 'We offer cover on a discretionary basis which means that your Executive Committee has sole and absolute discretion on deciding claims and may accept or reject claims in its discretion'. Some cans of worms are best left unopened unless as fishing bait

Ok no worries. I was leaning towards a definitive answer rather than a wishy washy ‘guess/belief’👍🏻

Sounds like we have had a lucky escape insuring our MH. We do drill down into a good deal of the small print, and for another reason dismissed CC insurance as it didn’t give us what we required. But we missed this.

They will be regulated by the FCA however as I see it the FCA are there to regulate conduct based on the contract with a company and I would not have as great a confidence if I had entered a contract with an insurance provider who stated that all payment was at their discretion.
The Insurance Ombudsman would be my port of call for an insurance dispute but with CC 'cover' this will not apply as they are not regulated by that body.

Yup, I get it👍🏻. Although I’d do the belt & braces thing, & the research with the FCA. I like to know things deeply😊

Just checked around website. There are two different pages, one is for Insurance the other is Caravan Cover, which is on a separate page. I will try and post links
https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/caravan-cover/
https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/insurance/motorhome-insurance/
Links are at the top of the page. It appears that MH and Campervan Insurance is offered, vehicles have to be legally insured. But I couldn’t find insurance for Caravans, only Cover.

Why ‘not as great a confidence’ if that is the case?, surely no company can openly deny a claim purely as a way of getting out of said claim🤷🏻♂️

TTDA
This only concerns their caravan product, motorhomes are offered "Insurance"
Look at the headers near the top of the page and you will find "Caravan Cover" and "Insurance"
Edit: Just seen your above post.

Yes thanks found it. 😁 Of course it’s a legal obligation to have a vehicle insured, but discretionary for caravan.

Simple answer. The FCA is there to consider that a contract is fair, the provider sticks to that contract and it's terms and conditions as written. The CC 'cover' clearly states: 'We offer cover on a discretionary basis which means that your Executive Committee has sole and absolute discretion on deciding claims and may accept or reject claims in its discretion. It also means that the Executive Committee may, in its discretion, agree a claim which falls outside the terms of the Caravan Cover, or which may even be expressly excluded, if the circumstances warrant it. The discretionary cover we provide is not a contract of insurance, and The Caravan Club Limited is not regulated as an insurance company.'
If they decline to pay out then I can approach the FCA who will decide on each individual case based on the contract that I have agreed to!

So, if you put a claim in you see as valid & fair you believe the claim can be denied with the C&MC, whereas an insurance company would accept the same claim?🤔
