Import
I have bought a new motorhome in Germany, and expect delivery February 2020.
As the process of importing is rather more complicated than expected I wondered if anybody would have experience in this venture.

OK. Why. Will it come right hand drive. I take it it's because it was cheaper but if tariffs come in on imported goods after or if it ever happens Brexit, it could cost you even more. Anyway, surely the dealer should do all the paperwork for you home and abroad.

That extra tarrif cost is not private import unique.
If the desired MH was purchased via a UK dealer then if post Brexit import tarrifs actually come in surely these tarrifs will still apply?
If they do come in, then European MHs etc will evidently cost more , but so will UK built ones as we make no base vehicles or just about any of the kit they are fitted out with, most being items from the EU.

The reason why the OP has purchased a vehicle from over there is irrelevant.
It's over 40 years since I last imported a car into the uk so the memory on the process faded. Anyway I purchased the car tax free in the UK, exported it then had to re-import.
Google search came up with this which may help:

Not sure why anyone would question why the OP is self importing, surely that is his prerogative? I am not sure what complications the OP is experiencing. From what I have seen on other forums it has to be registered in Germany and re-registered in the UK when it arrives ( probably all in Oneputt's link?). Assuming for the moment that Brexit doesn't cause any issue, given the time frame its only an issue if we leave with no deal suddenly. Fingers crossed for the OP that there is a spike in the value of Sterling when he comes to pay for it!!!

No law at all and I am sure the OP would be happy to answer your question but to me it came over as a bit too direct to be a general expression of interest, it seemed to me as though you were demanding to know? Perhaps it's just a nuance of language?

In the past we have been tempted by a left hand drive import as we only use our motorhome on the continent. Ex-rental Hymers with the correct specification can be good value and I believe the technical issues can be overcome fairly easily but my main concern was the resale market and, of course, warranty.
My recollection is that there are one or two companies that offer an import service. An Internet search may locate them.

What is the problem?
The motorhome will be temporarily registered in your name in Germany with export number plates valid for a limited number of days, enough to get you back to the UK. As it's a motor vehicle, the dealer should arrange for a VAT exempt purchase in Germany, but you will have to pay VAT in the UK when it arrives in Britain. The dealer should (must) also give you the Certificate of Conformity with all the technical type approval details and you should have no difficulty in registering the motorhome with that document.
What specifically is making the matter complicated?

So you buy a M/H from germany then try to sort out importing ? Forward planning ? or impulse buying ?

They are a few things that need attention - speedometer to be calibrated in mph, headlight adjustment, etc. Nothing serious.

How about looking at www.rvnomading.com, unless you are one and the same person?
