Should the Club put it's foot down?

nothing at all, but some like any chance to have a go at the club.

I imagine, rightly or wrongly, that even 5 or 6 years back that you were no more wedded to CC sites than me but if in the right location the obvious choice.
I have been retired 11.5 years (doesn't time fly) but my personal income went up by nearly £6,000 after tax 2 years ago with my receiving State Pension and that alone makes a substantial difference. I spent less than my total income before it.

I think you have not fully read or perhaps not understood NTH's post:
They're full (sometimes) because a large number of members can't be bother to look for better priced alternatives, and there are plenty out there.! It just takea a bit of research, which many people can't be bothered doing
Nothing to do with my liking club products at all Dave but rather that it is insulting to suggest that those that use club sites do so because they can't be bothered, and I posted an alternative where perhaps large numbers use them because they like them? And I asked if NTH, and perhaps indeed yourself, could accept that rather than NTH view?
I certainly do look at other sites and find them sub-standard and/or more expensive. I'll be a club site in the lakes soon where a few miles away a non club site would cost an extra £10.50 per night (for some reason the club has off peak over half term), then you can add £5 for my extra car I'll be having which I'll get free with the club and would have had to pay £10 per night deposit which is non refundable.
And of particular interest to you of course is that dogs are £1 per night. The electricity is also different to club sites, Electricity usage: – 10 KWhours are included for each day of booking. Additional usage is charged at 15p/Kwhour.

Sorry based my first costing on a SP (which of course I'll be using) then post edited to reflect the non SP price at the club site for an exact caparison.

I would say that before 2014, when we toured in UK for about 6-8 weeks plus abroad up to 12-14 weeks, we used exclusively Club sites in UK as far as possible.
These last 2 years we have not been abroad so have looked more closely at CLs and CCC sites as a way of reducing costs, especially on those trips that include school holiday periods, which unfortunately we have to incorporate as at most other times we are grandchild minding 3 days per week.

As this thread appears to have gone off topic and is now discussion prices rather than ways of eliminating wastage, I'm locking it and asking Rowena to review it.
