I think it’s the more recent vans that have given trouble. Year on year the build quality deteriorates in all brands.

At 20 years old your biggest enemies are damp and/or floor delamination. If both those aspects are OK, then you’ve probably got a good one. Obviously fittings and appliances fail over time but that's wear and tear.

Roadworthiness in terms of electrics, tyres and brakes can be checked and rectified if necessary as can the van's gas and electric systems.

Has it been serviced? check the tyre for sidewall deteriation, and age  Coachman at that year were well built vans, its later models that as all makes when getting popular they tend to not be as well put together, as they then build more to production figures then quality drops

For about £45 you can get an independent engineer to give it a once over.  If your not confident then I believe it’s money well spent

we've had a 2005 VIP 460/2 for 8 years and it has been brilliant. We've had no problems until this year when we've discovered damp around the offside front area. This looks to have been caused by moss gathering in the awning rail - not Coachman's fault but something to keep a very close eye on as moss encourages water ingress. See moss, remove it immediately!
