8' wide caravans on club pitches

One thing is for sure....whoever takes one of these 8' wide (2.438m) caravans through the arch to reach the Bolton Abbey Estate Site....given its 'restricted' width of 2.8m....had better have a good eye for lining up their approach..
Of course...the various colours of paint on the side walls of the arch are a reminder of what's behind you as you pass through and keep you focused !!! As you can see, I had no trouble
PS...don't forget to retract any protruding mirrors.

Touring with an 8ft wide Caravan will need a very steady pair of hands and an even bigger set of 'gozonga's'. If the approach roads to Cheddar, Putts Corner and Trewethett CMC sites are anything to go by. OK as semi-static vans but as tourers with towcars being fitted with smaller and less powerful engines.....very hard to justify or even understand.?

Perhaps that just happens on the very small amount or sites that you go to? What did you post, a few visits a year to one or two sites?
On every site I've on on there is ample room for car caravan and awning and still have room to walk around on gravel and fully open the cars doors neatest the caravan.
Funny how you reopened this thread after nearly a month?

or perhaps you choose different sites? we are talking club sites here, thought you posted just the other day you didn't use them, just CL's?

Sorry David that does not make sense, but you posted, in reply to a post about 8ft caravans on club sites:
If the pitches were not so small and crammed in there wouldn't be a problem over the odd spread of kit.
so you are saying you base that statement on one club site this year and 20 over there?

Certainly not the case on many pitches at Moreton in Marsh CS. At others there would be if it wasn't for peg drift to maintain the 6 metre spacing, which often means either the car or the awning space is to small, whilst the other side is oversized.

On some sites that are in the "ancient" part of the cc portfolio it is possible to find some pitches that just have enough space to be awning pitches, MIM being one as is Cirencester in the past it was quite common to park in front of the c/van

Yes I am sure there are sites like that but I can only say what I've experienced, maybe I only see SP and all HS sites and they are either on newer sites or recently refurbishment and therefore sized to a better standard?

Another limitation will be access to some sites, many approach roads (Devon, Somerset Cornwall) are pretty tight even with standard size caravans, even tighter with 8' caravans. And vehicles to tow them ? We should all be looking for lighter smaller vehicles NOT larger more unwieldy ones ? or am I missing something ?
Evidently sites on the continent are even smaller according to some posters on here, so no good for there either.

'see one C&MC site and one has seen them all.'
Having been on quite a few C&MC sites, I'm sure others have far more experience, this really is not the case. There are those which are totally non awning, those with no non awnings, those formally laid out, those informally so, those all grass, those no grass. etc, etc.
Yes, some sites have more usable pitch space, believe it or not but this can include non awning pitches too in my experience. It's not the pitch size that always determines usable space or whether it's a non awning or not, it's the spaces between pitches. At the end of the day what happens should be determined by those fire breaks alone in my view but the trouble is that some of us either don't understand these or we wish to ignore them for our own personal purposes and wants.

I can't say that I agree with that statement on many sites CS but maybe you have smaller front doors on your car.

Mmm, Kendal, Dunnet Bay, Morn Hill, Moreton - all exactly the same. Pull the other one, David🤣🤣🤣

We’ll have to differ on that one, MM, as I say you and David are both incorrect.
I’ve not quoted exceptions and couldn’t think of one single site that has rows and rows of jammed in pitches, although they probably exist somewhere.
