Caravan Valuations

Hello All, 

I've just joined the club & also new to caravanning. With some help from a friend I've just bought my first caravan, however I'm now wondering if I paid too much for it, so wondering how you can get an approximate valuation (without going through a dealer or online valuation companies).

I'm interested more to know if I've set the correct level of insurance.. 

My Caravan is a Sterling Vitesse (Belvoir) 460/2 (2005) & seems in good condition (apart from some minor damage on the roof, maybe from a hail storm or something). 

Just looking for a very rough figure to confirm the insurance, if something happened to it, I'd want to be able to replace it with the same level of specification, etc...

    Andy, I'm sure if you contact your insurers and give them details of the model and age of your van they will advise you on the correct valuation for insurance purposes. I did just that last time I renewed (with the other club!) having not changed the valuation for some years. They quoted me the value and a very pleasantly surprising reduction in premium there and then!  smile

    Have a look on autotrader. Put details of make, year, model of your van and just check any hits you get or of course follow M’s advice

    Usually putting the name and model and year for sale into Google brings up what is available out there. There will be differences between what a dealer might charge and what someone asks selling privately.

    Slight deviation but I discovered this week that my 2005 Coachman VIP has reached its rock-bottom trade value. I asked the dealer where old traded vans go. He said many go to builders or people doing their own building projects. He also mentioned that some of the "better" vans go to Glastonbury, where people will pay up to £1000 to hire them for the week. Nice work if you can get it!  It got me thinking - how else we could cash in on our old faithfuls once their touring days are over?
