Dogs and Touring

How does tying a dog outside a building for just a few minutes show disrespect for others? I can't work that out! Obviously no offence intended!
There are, of course, those who have a phobia of dogs and be caused some distress by the action of other, unthinking people, when they wish to visit the TB
As a lover of hounds, be they a rat on a string or a Pyrenean mountain dog, I am not concerned by them - unless they bite me.

Surely you’re not blaming children for the problem? Kids don’t understand dogs, a survey found that half of kids thought a growling dog was smiling. Goodness knows what they make of the growing trend of pushing dogs around in prams! Dogs are inherently dangerous, that’s all there is to it and the reason why dogs need to controlled.

No I do not believe so.
I frequent,y leave my dog in my car or caravan. My car is fitted with a lockable secure cage and the dog can be left for short periods with the tailgate open and car locked even on a hot day.
The only issue anyone should have with you leaving the dog in your van is if it barks incessantly when left or is not left with adequate ventilation or refreshment. Unless it has changed CAMC, though suggesting avoiding leaving your dog alone in your van used to offer advise on how to do so if required.
If CAMC feel they need to provide an area where a dog can be tethered unattended, and I see no reason why they should not do so, then it needs to be in an area away from main public areas so that those who are uncomfortable with dogs are not forced to go past them, too closely, to access facilities.

I don’t need to know Molly, I know Dogs. A Dog doesn’t use reasoning it works primarily on instinct & training. It’s not helpful to anthropomorphize Dogs, in fact it’s dangerous. A Dog is very capable of protecting a child due to the familial instincts. That same Dog may easily attack another child that falls on it or makes (what the Dog sees as) threatening movements near a member of its family group. Dogs just do not have the brain capacity to filter subtle human nuances. The family Dog is never guilty but will always suffer the most. It is our responsibility to ensure others safety, that can be best served by keeping our Dogs close & within our control whilst out.

My Labrador was near bullet proof. Fallen on, stepped on during kids parties and he would just roll his eyes. Having said that I agree that any dog can snap, or even attack, given the wrong situation and a trigger.
We had a visit one morning from the police who had come to my home to arrest the son of the previous owner. 3 police at front door and four at the back. I opened the back door with my hand on Labradors collar. The 4 policemen crowding the back door backed off double time as he reared up to defend me. A minute later when he realised that I was in no danger and the callers were not a threat I let him go to be fussed.

We were pitched next to an elderly couple on a CC site recently and noted that their dog, who looked older than its owners, was sitting outside their awning obviously not on a lead. Later that day, the warden came over to me as I was coming out of our caravan and, rather accusingly, asked "Is this your dog?" as I then saw it was on our pitch and seconds later trying to get up the step into our caravan. I said I thought it belonged next door so the warden went so see them and, I assume, reminded them that dogs should be on a lead.
Next day, the warden had to go to see them again as the dog was, again, outside with no lead. Whether this was a blatant ignoring of the rule I don't know, possibly just a very poor memory as the couple went out in their car leaving their caravan front locker wide open. How many other things were possibly forgotten?

About 4 years ago we left a non facility site to use a P&R to the nearby city. I realised that neither of us had shut the caravan door, never mind locked it. I phoned the site and the warden closed the door lest it rain.

We set off on a bike ride whilst in the Black Forest, having left the garage door open on the MH. It was only returning some five minutes later to resolve a flat tyre that we discovered it. Senior moments are not uncommon.

Limit on dogs per unit or site . Members should state how many dogs they are bringing when booking. We have been a member for just over a year now and this is the subject that makes us reconsider staying with the club. When you read site reviews the topic that always comes up is Dog mess, inconsiderate dog owners , noise from dogs , large amount of dogs per unit yet nothing has been done to address this problem. The club is excellent providing dog walks and bins but the sheer number of dogs at most sites is starting to give credence to the argument that dogs should be charged. Since the club provides facilities for dogs the associated cost should be covered. On visits with inclement weather it was more noticeable the amount of dogs tethered outside units rather than taken to the dog walk.
The wardens and the facilities the club provide on this site are superb and the level of cleaning in the Toilet blocks is excellent

Tend to agree, and yes some controls are necessary, but you won’t get much support for those views here.
I sometimes wonder if I joined a dog club for caravanners,

M7, I’m sure the club will be happy to here your views on how things should be done.
You’ll find no one here defending irresponsible dog owners but what you will find in Rowena’s OP is the request for complaints to be addressed to the club.
Of course controls are necessary which is why the club has rules about lead lengths, tethering and so on. Again, if you have an issue, see Ro’s OP.

"Storm in a tea cup" dont use club sites much these days but when we have although we have a dog, I have never been to sites where poo has been a problem, however, i do think dog owners should supervise themselves, e.g. i always have a pocket full of poo bags, even if the dog is not with me, if i see anybody doing the unthinkable then i politely offer them a poo bag, this is true even if i am out and about, yes in some circumstances you have to be brave, but in the main people are embarrased at the situation they find themselves in, particularly if there are lots of people around. What i dislike intensly are people who think it is ok not to pick up just because they are in the dog walking area, this can be very unpleasant if you walk in the dark. Just returned from a 4 day break with the Gkids where the site charge £10 per day for a dog, yes £10, we paid £200 for 4 days £40 of which was for Rufs

I haven't looked at this thread since just after it was first started and at that time I wondered how long it would take before it turned into another dog rant - the very thing Rowena advised it was not intended to do.
Well - having just looked through the last three of four pages, it's clear that the inevitable has happened.
I can't understand why it hasn't been locked since it is clearly serving no useful purpose whatsoever.

It’s surprising how many folk haven’t read Ro's wise words in her OP and jump in at the slightest opportunity ranting about dogs and their owners but I guess some people will do it regardless of guidance and advice on the right way to complain. In their own way, they’re as bad as the irresponsible people they condemn for not adhering to the rules about dogs on site. ☹️

It troubles me not if folk make pointless posts, Easy.

Should it be aimed at anyone in particular?
However, since you mention it, what was the point of making such an obvious remark? We all voice our opinions every single time we post here. It’s what the forum is for.

You aren't helping me TW; I am easily confused and slow on the uptake.
Well as you were probably not being self effacing and I doubt that it was aimed at Rowena'
If it was aimed at M7Bon or Seaside Bill Then I am happy to read their views.
If it was aimed at me then 'We all voice our opinions every single time we post here. It’s what the forum is for.'

Rowena invited feedback about Dogs on Club sites - all you outraged dog owners should read para 1 of her post.
M7BON provides some reasonable/rational feedback based on his personal experience together with a constructive proposition for debate. I subsequently endorse his assessment.
That’s instantly described as a ‘rant’ and we’re called ‘dog haters’. With owners like some of the more hysterical ones who post here, it’s not surprising we have a problem with dogs!
2 -
Exactly, para 1 describes the intended use of the thread. The remainder tells us what not to post and, in particular, how to complain.
Hysterical? Use of that term might well be covered in para 2.

What bit of “to your feedback regarding dogs on Club Sites”, don’t you understand?
0 -
I understand perfectly, SB. Unfortunately, I don’t think you’ve grasped the concept of the thread at all.

Ro does say 'This discussion can include anything from pictures of your dog/dogs enjoying their holidays and recommendations of good dog walks near Club or CL Sites, to your feedback regarding dogs on Club Sites.'
And I did not consider M7's post upsetting or offensive. For me it seems to be in line with the guidance
2 -
SB, there is only one thing I do in response to posts as offensive as yours.

I occasionally think that a charge for dogs would make sense. But I was thinking more in the order of 50p rather than £10

Were ther many dogs on site ?
