Off lead dog walks.....Posted by Merlin Hound in CL section & closed by Mod!!
Can anyone give recommendations for extensive off lead dog walk areas near club sites please.
We are responsible dog owners and have enjoyed a number of club sites but find it hard work discovering sites suitable for our dog, who needs a lot of exercise. For example Godrevy is great for many we are sure but we couldn’t let our dog off through the extensive dunes due to adders. So our stay was very frustrating to both us with the dog having to walk across this lovely terrain on the lead each day. Malvern hills again is great but there is cattle in the nearby fields and they do not like our dog, so we had to get the car out every day.
We need EHU and a toilet. Constructive answers please, he is already trained to KC silver standard and is commencing Gold training this winter.

i Wished to ask dog lovers if they can recommend a south coast of england coastal touring park where my well behaved pet can sit with me while dining and allowed in a club house, that has drinks and entertainment. I find this regularly in europe but in the uk the best we seem to get is an outdoor terrace. I am sure there are some out there. i just need recommendations. I see from the posts that dogs are an issue to some people and ask that we don't make this a political discussion.

There was a explanation as to why it was closed. Not only was it in the wrong place but the Community Manager has asked that dog related issues should be asked in this thread. I fully appreciate that the OP of that thread may have been unaware not only of this thread but also the requirement to keep dog related posts in one place. Unfortunately we do not have a facility to merge threads so all we can ask is that the request is reposted in the right place. We can move the complete thread here but then would have closed it anyway as a duplicated thread!

In Answer to lornalou 1 about being fined for letting her dog off the lead in a Park in Southport.
I do not give my name and Address to ANYONE except a Policeman in Uniform or one that can produce a valid warrant card. And certainly NOT a Council employee who happens to be wearing a uniform. I suggest you do not either. As you are a visitor to the area HOW will they be able to send their invoice/fine or whatever to your home ?
If they are unfair enough to hide their 'dog prohibition' notices, i would do similar and keep my address private from them.

These facilities just pander to lazy owners who should be using the designated areas already provided where their dogs can mess without everyone else on sight having to witness it.
If what you say about these additional areas is correct I totally agree but have no idea if it is trueo

It was my post about the Fixed Penalty Notice and I’m afraid you are legally obliged to supply the information. Civil Enforcement Officers are employed by the council or contracted out and can give Fixed Penalty Notices for dog ‘offences’ littering etc. If you refuse to give your details they can detain you for up to 30 minutes until Police arrive.
I think it’s worthwhile for anyone visiting Southport to check up on the local laws about dog walking, particularly because of the excellent walks nearby in Victoria Park and around the lake.

So you let youre dog of lead ? by cattle ? I presume this because you said they didnt like youre dog . If you kept it on lead away from cattle , why would they get spooked ?

I disagree. Moaning none owners are quick to complain if a Mutt fouls anywhere enroute to the dog area even if it's cleared up ASAP. The club have provided a few extra areas to help prevent any of these accidents and the 'lazy owners' are still in the wrong. The club & dog owners can't win.

If the Mod who closed the original thread, because it wasn't posted in the appropriate place, and had just copied it and the re-posted it here, as required by Ro, with a note to indicate that it had been moved from another part of the forum, then I would not have had to do it and so not get involved.
Here's me trying to be helpful to the OP so that he/she could get responses to their original posts.
BTW, we do have a dog and try to avoid crossing fields with cattle, especially when they have young with them or if they are youngish frisky bullocks.

For anyone who saw my original post about Fixed Penalty Notices issued in Southport last Tuesday I’m please to tell you that after 2 emails to the council and 3 to individual councillors in whose Ward the park is my ‘penalty’ notice has been withdrawn.
They admit that there are no signs at all on the path I walked, or at the entrance I used, informing people that dogs have to be on leads when walking by the lakeside.
Very pleased with the result.
I spent a fair bit of time searching information about Sefton Council dog policies that’s worth sharing if you are using the Southport site.
Dogs should be on a lead not exceeding 2 metres when walking alongside ALL A and B roads and in the KIngs Garden area around the Marine Lake (no signs here either when we walked through on Monday). There are specific areas in lots of the public parks where dogs have to be on short leads (sensible) so best safe not sorry and if in doubt leave the dog on the leads.

Yes, we’ll done. Many Councils are turning to PSPO’s for a variety of reasons, primarily drunkenness, drug usage, begging, urinating in public places and allowing dogs to defecate and not picking up. In some instances the Councils have gone in seriously heavy handed, and have contracted the work out to legalised thugs, who can be a tad too zealous in terms of how they dole out on the spot fines. It pays to do a bit of homework, and make sure that all the appropriate signage is in place, and to challenge.
Our Community successfully fought a bid to keep all dogs on leads in an area that did not have a history of problems. It had been lumped in with the other undesirable behaviour curbs, and was way too heavy handed. Compromise after numerous meeting resulted in certain areas being strictly on a lead, others fine to let dogs have a run. Traced back to a single complaint by one person from a culture that does not like dogs at all. It is not policed by the Contracted heavies, but by local park staff. Compromise won the day.👍
