Advert for Green Flag / May Day
Is it possible to stop adverts via the post and magazine inserts?
I feel I am being inundated with communications from breakdown companies via the Caravan and Motorhome club. I really can't see the point of inserting reams of adverts for 'fence paint', 'double glazing', 'wills', 'life insurance' etc, etc in to the club magazine, I don't read them, I just dump them into the rubbish bin.
I have tried umpteen times to 'unsubscribe' from the breakdown companies mailing list but I still get emails and letters through the post.
Please whoever is in charge, tell me that I won't receive any more 'rubbish' via the post or email.
Do other members have the same problem?
Perhaps the only way to resolve this problem is to leave the club. I am thinking about it.

No. You need to stop having the magazine delivered, and read it online. Then all you need to do is make sure all the advert filters are set up correctly on your computer choice. And opt out of receiving emails from the Club. 😁

Thanks for your reply 'takethedogalong', I'll look into your suggestions.
Opting out of all emails from the club is something I could do. I feel that now my information has been shared amongst other companies in this industry, stopping them completely is going to be difficult.0 -
I don’t think the Club will have shared that much of it to be honest, not without letting you know in the small print. It’s more likely to be some website you have linked to that now has your lifestyle, age group, shoe size and insurance renewals in their system!
Be very wary of Samsung TVs, and don’t use Siri if you use Apple products😂

you can opt out of receiving the club magazine, and i am just about to do that, it is not only the inserts advertising everything from double glazing to I think funeral plans in this months, but also the pages and pages of advertising in the magazine itself, i know this probably generates revenue for the club and helps finance the magazine but useful reading is probably now at 20 pct, advertising at 80 pct.

Advertising copy from one source like Greenflag which arrives as an individual letter should be easy enough to stop, just contact them as at some stage you must have (inadvertently perhaps) signed up. The inserts in the magazine are totally different provide useful extra income for the Club. They are not tailored to you but the general demographic. We are also told by the Club that those that appear time and time again are included because enough Club members actually buy the products to make it worthwhile. I am not sure why you are so bothered by them as they take seconds to remove and recycle, why deny the club of an income stream?

......the other thing about the advertising in the magazine and the extra leaflets is that these things are there in part to help pay for the magazine. I just do the same as I do with stuff that comes through the door. If it's of no use, stick it in the recycling!
Years ago, when we got the post through the door, it was usually something important, like an electric bill orca letter from someone I know. These days it's more likely to be something for the recycling!!

Life as we live it runs on on advertising, magazines, newspapers, TV, social media, commercial radio etc etc
However if the club thinks that continuous funeral plan inserts are a good way to keep the membership happy then they may have lost the plot somewhat!

The club will be going some if it wants to compete on funeral planning with late afternoon ITV - ever watched Tipping Point/ The Chase/ early evening news. Sometimes it seems that the only break from funeral planning is that annoying bloke asking "ever been involved in an accident?"
Mind you, there are compensations - every so often Lily James comes on advertising for some mobile phone company, not sure which one, I don't listen, I just look!

You could always grow parsnips like the other annoying eejit. 😀

Why are you getting stressed wanderer? Why don't you just put the unwanted paper adverts in the recycling bin rather than the rubbish bin?
Many organisations including CAMC, CCC, English Heritage and NT for Scotland include paper adverts in the envelopes along with magazines to members.
I have heard that the organisations receive some money in return for including these. If that is so, then it is no problem or effort for me to simply recycle them.

Inserts in the magazine provide revenue for it and the club. It takes only moments to throw it out if you do not want it and I cannot see any reason to make a fuss. These things are just one of the realities of life that you have to live with.
They may not interest you, but they must attract enough people to justify the advertisers paying for them, so someone is interested.
