Non-awning pitch

Apologies if this has been raised before and answered. If it has I couldn’t find it hence the query.

Is it permissible to erect a kitchen tent on a non-awning pitch?

Many thanks

I would have thought not at all. You could ask a warden at a particular site but I suspect that will be the answer

Kinda thought that would be the case but it would be easy to meet fire separation rules with one but hey ho

It may be possible I think if you have no car with your motorhome. I know such motorhomes/ camper vans can pull their canopies out on non awning pitches.

After all, it is 'all' driven by distances and associated firebreaks so ask the warden for guidance.

Even on an awning pitch, I’m not confident a kitchen tent would be allowed. Awnings, yes; pup tents, yes; but when has logic had a part to play?

Jamsie, in your position, I think I would contact the club and seek a definitive answer in black and white.

I have seen similar on awning pitches with motorhomes a number of times on CC sites TW

In that case it sounds, OK, Easy. I’ve just seen Ro's reply to Jamsie in his other thread and, if a dome tent is allowed, I can’t see why a kitchen tent wouldn’t be.

Edit: WTG's research seems to confirm it.

The rule quoted refers to a pitch with an awning space.

The OP asked about a non-awning pitch.

The OP though asks for clarification regarding using a kitchen tent on non-awning pitches.

If no, as EasyT suggests, then I wonder what might be the difference between a motorhome and kitchen tent arrangement, and a car and trailer tent arrangement.

The obvious difference is that the trailer tent would pitch to the peg I suppose. Whether such a tent could be placed where the car might have been I have no idea. I think that the OP was originally talking about non awning at York Rowntree though and I suspect the car on those pitches might be parked in front? No idea as it is not as ite that I have visited or am likely to.

We have used RP, but blessed if I can recall the exact configuration.

I looked on google maps and on what looks likely to be some non awning pitches the pitches look very deep but very narrow caravans are parked to left edge as viewed from front but no cars on those pitches to confirm

what's the difference re 'site validity' between all these different types of auxiliary 'tent' re usage?

eg a pup tent (for dogs?), a cooking/kitchen tent, toilet tent, or a 'dome' tent....

i guess the 'general' difference over 'normal' tents is that they aren't used for sleeping in (even by the dogs?) as CC doesn't do 'tent camping' does it?

but, apart from that, does the 'name' mean anything if pitched correctly?

and how large can these things be?

ive seen some pretty large awnings, can an auxiliary tent cover the same area?

Slight drifting here, but some relevance.

We have a small Basecamp caravan, to which the door is at the rear, therefore meaning the awning goes there.

Would it be possible for me to book a non awning pitch but still errect our awning if it remains inside the pitch boundaries??

Just a thought I had if kitchen tents are allowed on non awning pitches.

    Your thoughts please.

Perhaps they need renaming, Caravan/Motorhome only. No canvas, pup tents, umbrellas, wind out canopy, kitchen tents, smoking dens, dog pens, pet pens, tables sun loungers and anything else and keep it a caravan/ motorhome pitch only simple 😇

Ro says dome tents are allowed if within the confines of the pitch and not contravening fire regs.....

hence my question about any specific difference between differently named 'tents'...

if a dome tent a is allowed, why not a cooking tent or toilet tent under the same circumstances?

    Morning

The information from Rowena regards tents etc on an awning pitch, not a non awning pitch. I would suggest the op contacts the site he plans to visit and speak to the staff for more accurate advice.

    Morning

Your first port of call would be the site staff. The non awning spots on our site are too narrow to allow any form of canvas in order to maintain the fire break. I have to ask why book a non awning pitch then propose to erect an awning? Non awning pitches on most sites are very limited in number so will restrict your choice of pitch. As an example, the site I'm at now has four non awning but 119 awning pitches.

There was one erected on the grass area rear of the blue peg hard standing pitch at Bolton Abbey Estate site last week...Warden must have approved...

edit...this refers to the OP....not the basecamp caravan..

Morning JK, thanks for the reply.

You say that your NA pitches are too narrow, but that is my whole point. Our caravan and awning take up no more room that most 4 berth vans as the awning is at the rear and not on the side.

Why book a NA pitch you ask?
Not sure I would want to but it does give a little more choice and saves cost. But that aside, when looking at late availability, sometime NA pitches are all that are left.

Non awning and awning pitches cost the same DaveandVicki so no savings unfortunately.

We have used YRP. Some pitches are quite large, others small and narrow, although you would be hard pressed to know which is which, because it has no grass, just a few hedges. Therefore boundaries are not clearly defined as many are with the hard standing surrounded on three sides by grass. We saw small campervans with what looked like toilet tents adjacent when we stayed, possibly no larger than a kitchen tent, but who knows? We saw enormous TAs with full sized awnings that could have taken three camper vans in same space, again didn’t seem to be an issue. We were fortunate enough to choose a pitch in a corner, so with our small MH had lots of room, enough for MH, fully unrolled canopy and our chairs and tables alongside that rather than underneath. A large MH rolled in to pitch next to us, and he was made to move and actually pitch diagonally on the pitch so while his rear corner was by peg, his front opposite corner was a good bit closer to our outfit. (Didn’t bother us, and we though it strange as it wasn’t impeding exit or entry for any of other five outfits up into top little bay?)

I think it would be easier for all if the Club didn’t use terms like pup tent (not for dogs for those confused) or dome tent, or toilet tent, or kitchen tent but actually stated what floor area is permissible. Eg 2 metres wide or long. That way every pitch, be it awning or none awning could accommodate a small tented structure, not attached to the sleeping unit.

To the OP, if going to YRP, take some serious rock pegs for your kitchen tent. The hardstanding material is awful, not nice to walk on for man or beastie!

Sorry Brue, you are quite correct. It's the other club that varies. surprised

I only asked about pitching our awning after it was suggested that tents could be erected if they stay within the bounds of the pitch.

A few weeks back we stayed on a C&CC non awning pitch for a couple of nights. Had it not been for the monsoon, then there would have been ample room to pitch the awning. It just got me thinking.

I quite understand DandV...it's enough to befuddle the already confused. I can't work out why the other club ask if you're taking an awning or not but then let you book a certain type of pitch!? I presume they have some small pitches too. If in doubt I say we're taking an awning just in case we get offered a tiny pitch.

As for CAMC, I'd much rather see standard pitch sizes all round.
