Advice on long stays -insurance impact

We really love going away in the winter but with working full time it's a struggle with dark nights.  We are thinking about siting our van somewhere over the winter - perhaps Nov - end Feb - to try and get more use out of it during the winter months.  We will then bring it back to local storage to go back to touring over the warmer months.  Would love advice on the following -

1.  Could anyone recommend any sites which may facilitate this within 45mins to an hours drive from Durham.  We are happy with very basic sites to keep costs to a minimum- will only need hook up and waste.

2.  How do people who already do this work it with insurance.  Our insurance suggests we will need to pay a fee when we move it from storage to site in terms of an amendment fee and possibly change in policy amount dependent on post code and the same when we base it back in storage.  Is this the normal way or are there specific policies which cover both arrangements?

Would love to get some advice on this.  Thanks.

Can't help with the site. However, our caravan was insured with the CAMC. When we put it on a seasonal pitch at Cirencester Park a year ago, I phoned them re the insurance. As our van was stored in a Cassoa Gold storage, they removed the discount, which was all of about £8 for the period in question. There were no amendment charges. Once it returned to storage the discount was reinstated. Clearly it looks as though your insurer wants to make a bit more money from the change.

Why don't you select a particular area where you might want to stay, and have a look at CL's in this area, contacting any that take your fancy and ask them if they can facilitate your requirements.
