Only £30 for the 4m kit and I was paying the postage anyway, as I had ordered a bucket. We have found that it is often not possible to stand off to the side of the Manhole, particularly if only the one. Well not without parking in the middle of the road. The easiest thing is to drive so the Manhole is just in front or behind the passenger side corners. It can then be easily lifted, as not under the van. As our waste outlet is in the middle, the Hymer supplied bit won't reach. The collapse kit is great, unlike a Dyson hose, or the coils I have left over from the caravan, it will hold its shape when extended and is rapidly collapsed and stowed in the supplied bag.

I don’t think it matters what units use SPs or why they use them. It’s their choice.

The time to start complaining is when we see them standing empty while other pitches are full as that will be an indication that the club has got the balance wrong and misjudged the need.

Where we are now the ratio of motor caravans is ,60/pin favour of caravans, as elsewhere we have been recently,  there are more VW California campers than other makes, they even outnumber Bailey, not many are on serviced pitches,  but quite noticeable is the amount of waste master are being used under the motor caravans we have only noticed some VWs actually moving ,as most others have awnings in place

I agree, the Colapz stuff is expensive, but the reason we went for the fresh mini kit was the issue of weight in caravans.  We decided that to decrease the weight of the caravan, all the stuff we would normally use outside, we would carry in the car.  This meant that it was straightforward to unload, and the stuff we carried in the car was generally the 'seasonal' stuff (i.e.in the late autumn and winter, we would be unlikely to use he outside chairs and table etc).  As space was a premium and as we use a lot of serviced pitches, the fold down mini fresh kit was ideal.  We found the collapsible waste hoses at the same time.  To start with, I thought it was, perhaps a bit OTT, but the fact that we have struggled with rolling and unrolling the convoluted hose a bit of a pain.  It is also easier to direct and put out on a pitch.  The Colapz stuff can be angled around a corner/ bend without springing back.  Also it is far easier to clean.  Each of the little sections can be soaked/ washed more easily at home.  We stopped bothering to clean our long sections of convoluted hose, preferring just to throw it away and buy some more when necessary.  I suspect that the colapz stuff will last a lot longer!

on this site a SP comes in at £41.40, standard £37.50, yet it as been full all the time we've been here, and according to the wardens (and booking) full most days till the end of September.

It has come to pass K.

next Spring, Hillhead will be £48.70 for a SP and two members, what's the betting that 2021 will see the £50 barrier breached?...(perhaps £49.99 for effect?)

the one thing that might change is the SP premium....a flat £4 (does anyone think £3.90 is fooling anyone....why not £3.99?) £4.50 or even a fiver?

if folk are happy to pay this sort of rate for a pitch and a shower/loo, good luck to them.....at least Hillhead has some extras to help justify the price...

Indeed, even Bridlington is £39.40 (service pitch) this years peak. £41.10 next year.

two 'run of the mill' sites I'm visiting in the next month are £35, and £34.80 for couple on a standard pitch, add £3.90 for SP - which I do gladly

Both are full till end of September more often than not.

It always amazes me that people spend thousands and thousands of pounds on car/caravan combinations and motorhomes and then moan about how much they have to pay for a pitch. come on people, as they say "you can't take it with you." laughing

I'm don't think the comparison is justified. Unless of course the CL had service pitches, pool, bar etc.

Its not what I want from a site but plenty do and are prepared to pay.

Yes, but you still have a choice to use a less expensive non serviced pitch.

Proposal I was replying to was that all pitches would be serviced, and £40++

    Yes, exactly!

The more reasonable the price the more often we can go away.  Only about 90 nights this year as we have taken on "grandparent duties", usually we do about 120 nights and our average site fee is under £20 per night.

My pension has to cover our day to day and holiday costs, savings are for unexpected things and major purchases.

True, but it won't be long. If the increase of the last few years is maintained. The published standard price in 2020 is £37.20. So in 2022 we will have broken the £40 barrier.

That is of course sans kids. They have reduced by 40p next year but still add a further £3.70.

It's not especially the price of CC sites that put me off, it's being packed in like sardines on gravel that puts me off & encourages me towards CLs .... Cheddar a few weeks ago was a very good example and I had the added pleasure of walking Molly passed the CC site every day to remind me what I wasn't missing.

We prefer the gravel as the weather is unpredictable, we have booked what looks like a nice CL, reviews are good anyway, as the second stop on our next trip, serviced pitches and 16A EHU, £12 per night.

We do not need a site with toilets and showers.

Very few CLs have high and low season prices, so are good value all year round.  Keeps our average down and allows for the occasional expensive CAMC site!

But then  thousands do  and seem quite happy with the prices compared to what is today's salaries , compared with what it seems a large proportion who post on CT were earning before retirement even with final salerie pensions and state pensions

are you saying that working folk earn so much these days that £40 a night is reasonable sum to pay?

yet very few of these will be able to (ever) retire....certainly not if they keep shelling out at that rate....but perhaps, if working so hard making all this money, they only get away for a few nights a year?

those at the other end of the employment cycle have many, many weeks away and doing the applicable multiplication would be too shocking to contemplate..

as others have said, cheaper sites (better deals) means more nights away...those who have just 20 nights a year can spend £40 a night but not those who have 200+.

If you talking pensions, the Stakeholder type are at the moment, returning pitifully poor returns.

25 year forcast at +£150 a week total employer/employee contributions, returns on maturity £40 a week! Compare that to FSS, the good grey times are well and truly gone for the majority.

How that effects future tourism of all types is anyones guess.

We are having to set aside £5k of net income per year in a workplace savings scheme, as well as 8% of our joint gross salaries at £90k into stakeholder,  to come remotely close to a simple retirement leisure plan. Living more for the now lately!

Ahh if only my employer had had a final salary superannuation scheme... But we are where we are. We have a limited income so our maximum limit at the moment is £25.. The club can charge whatever they want but the limit remains and we will not pay more.

I do read with interest the retired section of the memberships comments.

Its useful info to put into the memory bank.
