Cleaning a caravan

I store my caravan in a storage site with no facilities for cleaning it. I am unable to get it home to take a hose to it. I am sure I am not the only one with this problem so I wondered how other members clean their vans as you are not allowed to clean them on club sites?

Hi Westie, I have the same issue as you. I use a 7 litre garden spray with a mix of water and car shampoo. Then I use a long handled car brush to agitate the shampoo. Rinsing used to be a problem until I purchased a stand alone battery operated pressure washer from Bosch.  Seemed a bit extravagant at the time, but works really well. Note the tank holds about 15 litres of water so you may need to take more with you, depending on how soapy/big your caravan is. I use about 20 litres total for a twin axle. Afterwards I use a microfibre cloth to dry.

    Hope this helps

Find a local car wash you can tow it to that will clean it without using a high pressure hose willy nilly.

    Have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NspoE_ceRF0

This video shows how to clean a van using Fenwicks cleaner with a pressure bottle.

Hi we used to keep our Bailey on a storage site with no water supply.

We did the garden sprayer routine for a while. One with a wash/wax/Fenwicks and 2-3 with clean water, also using a caravan brush and microfibre cloths.  Then we tried the water less wash products and found as long as it was not the gritty grunge off the roads and just standing dirt they were brilliant, pardon the pun.

As long as you follow the instructions and you also used plenty of clean good quality micro fibre cloths the results are excellent. Plus they leave a  rain repellent surface the the water just  beads off .

They can be great for removing grey/black streaks.

    All the best

    Tombo.

I take 30 lts of water, 3 X10 lt plastic Jerry cans, and wash the caravan by hand. I sometimes use a long handled brush, but usually have a small step ladder to allow me to reach the top.

I use Fenwick's to wash the caravan and then spray it with Bobby Dazzler.

    I don't wash the roof!

what about using the Worx Hydroshot low pressure washer as you could just fill the aquarol with fresh water and it sucks it up via a battery in the gun. funny how the handbook say not to use pressure washer but all the dealer service depots I've seen use them.

Simple, book a site that allows you to wash your van. I am in the same position and use commercial sites on serviced pitch if van needs cleaning.

There are alternative sites that understand the needs of their customers.

Westie, I sympathise. My van is on a storage site and it has a wash- I never use it! By the time I’ve hitched up and got it round to the wash I may as well wash it where it is. I much prefer to wash and polish it on the storage pitch. It’s amazing  how little water it takes to wash a caravan- I use one of these pads on the end of a tube that you can draw water into. Loosen the dirt with that. I then use a ‘Super Cham’ an artificial chamois leather which is better than the original thing to dry it off. Waxing with Autoglym HD wax is done every now and again. I do concentrate on the roof and the solar panels. From what I observe on the site- most don’t!
