Safefill - Refillable Gas Cylinders

Yes, I’m very doubtful that the full truth is in this one DD. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is a method used by whoever these people are to sell more gas. I think if Calor, Flo or whoever supplies their gas knew of it, gas supplies might be stopped immediately! I have to say I’m not sure whether it is criminal or a civil offence but it’s illegal that’s for sure. As I say, if it was illegal before the new Red Guide, then it’s illegal now- no matter who does it. All that changed or was added was regarding the filling of “properly constructed user/owner cylinders “ due to their acceptance into the mix. I think the gas supply company would be very interested in this!!

I can only go on what I was told, I assumed it was Flo Gas who gave them the information as it was a Flo Gas installation but the warder said they were given a chart. I asked if he meant just refillable bottles and he said no the normal ones too that the adaptor fits.
The site does have a high proportion of seasonal pitches including lots of American RV's on site so I guess they have a captive audience who are grateful to be bale to do this.
I would have bought some gas myself but at 86p a litre I will go elsewhere.

I have spoken to Safefill in the last day or two. Neil has sent off 2000 valves to his cylinder manufacturer and he will be getting the next thousand cylinders in late September. Just so that you know that Safefill are doing everything in their power to get cylinders into the country

I do tend to agree. It would be better if we had a thread entitled something like "Refillable Gas Cylinders" rather than being brand specific. If someone would like to start such a thread I think we could make it sticky and then I will close this one.

I think the suggestion by another member was that the current thread title was inaccurate as clearly Safefill has not gone bust and I suppose leaving the thread as it is could plant doubt in people's minds as to whether they should be investing in a Safefill cylinder? Perhaps you would prefer me to close this thread?

I think safefill has as much, probably more relevance on CT as filling my bottle in France.
When I read a thread I usually go to the last post where I can see the original OP and the current reply's. I'm only guessing but I suspect most subscribers probably do the same so new readers will know that Safefill is still available

Why not just edit the title? at least then any useful information to anyone reading it is still available for reference.

I remember the introduction of the Defamation Act 2013 which came into law on January 1st 2014.
A statement can be said to be defamatory if its publication "caused or is likely to cause serious harm to individuals' or businesses' reputation."
Under the Act website operators can be pursued by those who claim they have been defamed as a result of comments on their site even if they are not the author of those comments. Operators have numerous defences to a claim including that the imputation conveyed by the statement complained of is substantially true.
My concern is that the longer this thread continues, the greater the risk Safefill's business will suffer and that will lead to a potential claim for defamation.
I'm not a lawyer. I haven't read every post on this topic, and I don't use refillable gas cylinders. Moderators or Rowena may be best place to make the call.

It’s a question, not a defamatory statement, and the answer is in the thread.

I think your views re Safefill are getting in the way of your judgement, DD.😂

But it was the best joke of the day so far. Mind you, it’s still early 😁

Just a note to say that I picked up a Safefill cylinder in the north east of England on Thursday, and filled it up in central Scotland without any bother on Saturday.

Bought a Safefill medium from https://www.somerset-safefill.co.uk week before half term.
next day delivery and included a standard hand wheel hose with the bottle. Bought a braided hose for £8 at the same time. Fitted the braided hose in the caravan. Standard hose for fire pit table in garden at home.
Filled for first time at Morrisons Cribbs Causeway in Bristol at £5.66 for 10 litres+. The first fill is only 10 litres, not 85% cut off.
An equivalent 6kg refill CalorLite is £26.45

Well, I've bitten the bullet and have just bought a couple of Safefill cylinders - a medium and a small. (Didn't bother with the large - our issue is to keep down the weight, so Safefill seemed the way to go now that Calor lite bottles are going to get harder to source). Basically, the small is for the Cadac and the medium is 'for the caravan', but we have the option of swapping. We are likely to need to fill the cylinders whe we are out in the caravan, so providing we keep them topped up, there shouldn't be a problem.
One of our camping shops... Jacksons of Old Arley have facility to fill the bottles. I had the conversation with them as to whether they envisage to continue to supply LPG. There answer was that they have spent quite a bit of money installing the system so there is no way the are going to stop supplying it. That was good enough for me...

If anyone can advise on this, I'd be really grateful.....
Last month we swapped to Safefill. I have now emptied my old cylinders, so now I need to fit the Safefill cylinders. I have a centre gas locker with straps to go around the centre of the bottle and 'floor brackets' (pictured below) Will the Safefill bottle fit onto the old ''floor bracket' or do I need something else? (Caravan is in storeage)

Thanks for that Dave. I'll give it a go next time we go up. Just thought it was worth asking if I needed a different bracket so I could get it delivered before going up to storeage. Sounds like all will be well with the existing bracket .. 👍👍
