Keeping motorhome cool
Hello everyone,
We're soon to depart for our first trip to France with our dog. She is a large breed and the temperatures for where we are visiting are quite high, hotter than we anticipated!
Temperatures will likely be mid 30's to 40. The endless breeze fans are no longer made and we cant seem to find a fan that would keep her cool in the day. She is finding it too hot in the shade at home, so we're thinking of how to keep our motorhome cool for her when it becomes very hot.
Is it time to think of an air con unit? we've seen the split air con units, but are worried about potential noise for the rest of the campers on site. Does anybody have any other tips with recommending good fans or air con units?

Regardless of fans, air con etc, I can recommend a cool mat - the sort that contain some sort of gel and remains cool to the touch without having to be put in a fridge. Not quite sure how they work - but they do! Our large, very woolly Cockapoo, loves it in this weather. Available on line but we have just bought a replacement from B&M Bargains for £10 - for a large size. They only last about a year before the gel mysteriously disappears - but at that price, that’s no big deal.

We regularly travel to France with dog (see pic),and have just returned from the Dordogne where it has been high 30's daytime for most of the time we were there.
We have air con though, a Truma Aventa. And wouldnt go without it. We draw all the blinds abd curtains and when the temp. peaks fire it up to create a cool chill out area where we and the dog can cool off.
Noise wise, well no its not silent and emiits a rushing air sound most noticeable at the back of the van. Its not unlike the sound used on the apps. people use to help their babies sleep!
The most noise is inside the 'van when its going full tilt but during the day its not a problem. It has a quieter night time mode but we tend to fling the windows open and just use fan only mode which is virtually silent inside the van and not noticeable outside.
Personally I would say its worth its weight in gold.

How considerate to think of other campers ..not like last poster ..who was more concerned about noise in van !!

This is really helpful, thank you so much. Have taken a look at the Truma and really liked it. Would use it just as you suggest, air con on during the hottest parts of the day so she can keep cool and then off at night so as not to make any noise for other campers. Bulked at the price at first, but as we plan on visiting France at least yearly, it seems a worthy investment. Thanks again.BTW: gorgeous dog!
