Squealing When Braking

Also, for what it’s worth. The dealer told me that Alko installed the faulty brakes for around 18 months, and that it was some time after that, that Alko realised the scale of the problem. In the meantime, folks that had their brakes replaced most likely had more of the same, ie, faulty brakes.

On Monday our Coachaman caravan had 'new' pads fitted to it by our dealer. As far as we know they are the 'new' pads supplied by Alko.
We had to provide a photo of the axle plate on the van first, this is to enable Alko to confirm what year the axle was made. Ours was one of them that had the problem, which hopefully has now been fixed.
According to our dealer Alko switched suppliers a few years ago to an American company, they have now switched back to another supplier, judging by the complaints and the amount of vans we have personally heard both UK and abroad with squealing brakes, it will have cost Alko a pretty penny.

Yes we have had noisy brakes. first started when we used caravan after it's 1st service in April 2018 Have to say noise wasn't every time we slowed down or braked and brakes didn't seem to be binding as Car performance was fine. .
Mentioned brake noise to the Approved Fitter who carried out the 2nd Service, He was well aware of problem comment was cheap shoes being used. Brake drums and Shoes were cleaned during service. Since 2nd service and 300 plus miles the brakes have not been noisy. So far So Good but time and mileage will tell.
I think as long as the Brakes pull off when you move off things should be o k. This depends on the over run mechanism etc operating correctly.
Oh! I have to say. When Caravan is not in use for some time I Chock the wheels and leave the handbrake off. So the linkages and Springs etc are not stressed.
