New pricing in handbook
We have been members for many years on and of since the 1970's and this is the first time I have had to write.
I don't like the new pricing in the 2019 handbook. We went to a site in Wales this June 2019
and it said in the handbook (I quote) 2019 prices from £8.90 per night for pitch and one adult.
However we paid over £23.00 for the night. That was for two adults. That means one second adult was £15.00. This was called a booking fee. The pricing is not clear. We looked
in the handbook and you now have to download the correct price guide.
Sorry CMC this is a bit misleading.
Please bring back the old way of pricing.

It’s been discussed several times on the forum.

I don't think the "from" price is likely to apply in June is it? So the £15 difference was neither for the second adult nor a booking fee. When did you book the site? Did the price you paid not appear on your confirmation?
In some ways it makes more sense to quote for a pitch & 1 adult since that's the minimum that can arrive on site, but I've no idea why the change was made this year.

I have moved your post here as discussions is a more appropriate place for you comments.
The price quoted is the lowest possible on any given campsite for a pitch and one person. This obviously means the starting price which will rise as the seasons influence the pricing structure. Fees for additional people and children, if any, have to be added. I don't know if the Club intend to amend this way of doing things but it won't be until 2021 season as the directory lasts for two years.

Did you book online? did you notice the price when booking?

To some degree I would agree with the pitch + 1.
What I think is a bit underhand is that when quoting that price, its only usually available for a couple of days in the year.
If all you have is the handbook when out touring then trying to find the price is not easy. I know its not impossible, it looks like the new format is proving to be not welcomed by most of its members.

I don't think it's particularly misleading, especially as it says from. Particularly to someone who has used the CC over a number of years. You tend to have a rough idea of what to expect.
However, I do think it's pointless. Either publish a min - max range, preferably for standard pitch with EHU + 2. Or remove prices altogether and go with the downloadable / requestable suppliment.
I would show the range as rounded full pounds, so you might see (17 - 33) It wouldn't take up any more room and in my opinion be more useful.

I've said it before, but in buying anything, holidays, cars, bookings... I have never got the from price ever.

when we booked into our site over Easter we got the booking price and, perhaps even more surprisingly, we wanted to add an extra adult, our daughter, who wasn't on the original booking, and we got charged the pre-increase price not the newer higher price!

I agree the CC were very fair, as they could have just adjusted the prices, as they did with the revised BH. However, BB makes a valid point. The adjustment is a manual fudge, as the my bookings price has been altered. This should not have been allowed to happen. In our case one site clearly forgot and we didn't even think about it until the next site, when the Warden joked about our massive discount.😀

Perhaps the Club need to overhaul how they set prices for sites by having a limited number of price bands, say between 3 and 5 and then grade sites by price band. This could be further split into seasons across the years, say 3 to 4. That way each site could have price band A,B,C etc There would be no need for prices in the directory but every year the Club could send out a single card insert for the directory with the current prices. It could almost be credit card size but that might be pushing it a bit! Any sites offering additional discounts like the midweek discount could be highlighted. There would be the issue of Affiliated Sites but the answer there might be to have a set discount off those sites website prices?

Every advert you see for a new car comes up as a “prices from” nowadays. You have to be quick enough to catch the small print that flashes onto the screen for a couple of seconds to realise that the super flash paint finish, air con, adaptive technology, spare wheel (🤣), Etc.....comes at extra price. It’s why there are such boring coloured cars around in the main. Black, white, grey or goldy-beige Sir? Ah, you fancy something a tad more bold, that comes at an extra £1000 and a three month wait Sir......😂😂😂
Its the same with pitches. Patch of grass? A tenner. Two people? Another tenner. Hook Up? A fiver. Much like those super cheap rail tickets, there is a bargain out there, but it’s usually because no one else wants it.😁

Agreed BB. You go out hoping to buy a thoroughbred, but find your hard earned pennies only entitle you to a pony. The wise and learned occasionally drop on a handsome hunter.....usually bought by someone else first, but well schooled with lots of potential and longevity.😁
(Can you tell I am doing horsey things today, hoping to flog a very nice and broken in saddle to anyone with the cash to spare!😄)
