My parents stayed at Exmoor House after my wedding in Devon. We visited them there and it's a lovely site. I love Dulverton. Very charming place and can definitely spend awhile exploring the shops.
The Tarr Steps is one of my favourite places and there are lovely walks along the river. You're also not too far from the little church in Oare which was the fictional location of Lorna Doone's wedding. A charming little church, not much else there other than beautiful countryside but fascinating if you've read the book. A little further along there was a lovely picnic spot by Robber's Bridge and a nice gift shop nearby (not sure if that's still there).

Perfect weather for Exmoor FB, hope you can hear the river Barle lulling you to sleep tonight! If you're up near the Tarr Steps turn ( a must see as Moulsey has suggested) you can also turn right from the main road and go to Winsford, see this LINK for local info, there a well known thatched pub in the village and it's a very pleasant place to wander around.
(If anyone fancies staying near there we can recommend the camp site at Halse Farm.)0 -
Yes, you'll have no problem taking a dog on the train. Check up to date timetables though. The park & ride is moving (may have already moved) from Lelant to St Erth.
One of our favourite days out is to park by St Uny's church in Lelant and walk to St Ives along Porth Kidney Sands and then up on to the coast path just before Carbis Bay. If you're as lazy as us, to avoid two steep hills on the way back, you can get the train to Carbis Bay for £1 and walk back from there.

I love the Doone valley too Rowena, a bit out of the way but worth the journey. I used to believe the tale when I was young so found Oare church a bit scary!

Well we've now left Tretham Mill and arrived at Godrevy Club site.
Tretham Mill is one of the best kept sites we've ever been on, everything is kept 1st class. Tretham is a 3 mile drive to St Mawes which is a lovely quaint seaside village with a pub & a coop store etc. There is nothing near the site and a car or bikes are essential. Funnily enough we're not sure if we would return to Tretham, firstly because of its isolated location & secondly because the attitude of some of the staff. When I went to reception to ask a question the stock answer was "look in the information room" when they could have easily answered themselves. For example the large unisex showers are on a code so I went to ask for the code & the response I got was "its in the information sheet you were given on arrival". So I had to walk back to our Van to read the sheet & yes it was there but we'd been on the road for 9 hours from Manchester & all we wanted was a shower. The Pizza van that calls on the site did very nice pizzas and they were good value.
So we're now at Godrevy Club site, all pitches are grass and the beach which is lovely is 15 minute walk through the dunes. The wardens all seem very nice and the weather is great, so we're now off to the beach for the day.

Hi, enjoy Godrevy!
An alternative way to visit St Ives is to use the pay and display car park in Carbis Bay (on the road to the beach, on the left, just after the church).
Walk down to the beach and take the coastal path to St Ives, a beautiful walk with wonderful views as you approach the town. Not too far, about 40 minutes stroll.
on returning to Carbis Bay, if dogs or humans can’t face the uphill walk to the car, one of you can volunteer to go get it and pick the others up by the Carbis Bay Hotel.
There is a lovely dog friendly beach in St Ives called Bamaluz.

While you're there, take the opportunity to park up by the lighthouse (NT), and stroll up to the cliff top to see the seals down in the cove. For something a little more strenuous there's a mainly level walk along the coast to Hell's Mouth with a nice cafe to pop into before walking back.

We spent about one hour watching two seals off the coastline there fascinating even more so when they both got out of the water and took their snorkels off and then their wetsuits 😂

Free parking on the left on main road above St Just in Roseland church, walk through the church yard which is planted as a botanical garden and out of the bottom there is a footpath that follows the Carrick roads around to St Mawes with views over to Falmouth. Great beaches in the area. Drive along the coast from Veryan you have Port Loe, Port Holland and Porth Luney cove.

The walks around Godrevy are great, lots of wild life spotting, if you're careful you'll see the larks in the grassland and many interesting wild flowers.
We like the café too but it's very popular in the main season so you might have to queue. NT Godrevy LINK

Well we're back home and our holiday is finished (how quick has those 3 weeks gone). Just to recap we stayed at Exmoor Club site, Tretham Mill (commercial) & Godrevy Club site.
We enjoyed all 3 sites & we were so lucky with the weather. The warden at Exmoor was excellent and a credit to the club.
Tretham was one of the best kept sites we have been to and we really liked our pitch, it was hardstanding with its own picnic table and grassed area to sit out. St Mawes was 3 miles away which had 2 lovely shingle beach's (only one was dog friendly) Tretham did feel isolated and a car or bikes were essential. We would go back to Tretham again and enjoyed our stay.
Godrevy has a fantastic location being a shortish walk across the dunes to a beautiful long sandy beach which was dog friendly. We walked along the beach to the NT café mentioned by brue and the food was lovely as were the staff & although it gets very busy its worth a visit. We did a day trip to St Ives via the bus, the bus service was poor with only 3 buses per day. At low tide you can walk from Godrevy to St Ives on the beach which I wished we had done. Hayle is 2 miles from Godrevy & there is a full range of shops/supermarkets to stock up from. All pitches at Godrevy are grass, being a motorhomer we've always for hardsanding but at Godrevy the grass was well draining and we actually enjoyed having a grassed pitch and will use them again.
So to sum up we had a fantastic holiday in Cornwall, greatly helped by such wonderful weather. Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice you gave before we left they helped us enjoy our holiday.

Funny, Choughs bakery is in Padstow (Padstein!) but their produce is a bit cheaper than down west
I'm down Marazion way next time off so I'll bob in Philps for a tasterJK

Hi OP, really glad you enjoyed your trip.
just a note, you can’t walk from Godrevy to St Ives unless you fancy swimming the estuary of the River Hayle....See our suggestion earlier of parking in Carbis Bay and walking to St Ives on the coastal path.
