Hi there my name is leigh I am new to this forum, I have just been chatting with dean on live chat regarding trewethett farm site and he has recommended you guys for any useful feedback.

High, Leigh, and welcome.
Trewethett Farm is the place for sunsets, hence there’s always great competition to get a ‘ringside’ pitch🙄. It’s unusual for CAMC sites in that you’re asked to park and walk the site on foot and to leave something or somebody on the pitch while you return for your outfit.
Be sure to follow the club’s directions for getting to the site.

I have not known this before, we have only been members of CAMC for around 16mths but on all the sites we have visited I have never had to walk the grid so to speak...
We had concerns about badly sloping pitches as our van is 26ft long so may take some levelling.
Dean has told me some pitches do have slight slopes??
We was thinking of swapping to camelford.

Leigh, If you want a large, exposed site on the cliff top with stunning sea views then Trewethett is for you, but if you want somewhere more sheltered, cosy and intimate (but 2 miles from the beaches) then I suggest Willow Valley Holiday Park at Bude. Current 2019 reviews are on PitchUp.com

As I said it’s unusual, maybe even unique, in walking to select your pitch.
It's a few years since we visited and I can’t remember if the pitches are all sloping or not.
Tbh, Camelford wouldn’t be my choice as it isn’t a great area in my opinion.
Much depends on what you’re looking for, how far west you want to travel and on the time you visit. Cornwall gets very busy - unbearably so - in popular areas in the silly season. There are literally hundreds of sites to choose from and Euro's suggestion could be worth a look, or the nearby Wooda Farm site affiliated club site if you particularly want that area.

Leigh, I think you'll enjoy Trewethett and the wardens are used to people changing pitches there if needed. You'll probably find things more level at the lower end, the site rises to the north. Give it a try and move pitch if the choice is limited on arrival. Walking round first will help on such a spread out site. Hillhead run a similar system, it stops vans getting stuck in cul de sac areas etc. Have a great holiday and as said there are plenty of other sites to consider as alternatives but get booking, Cornwall was very popular last year!

Upper Lynstone Caravan Park on the southern edge of Bude is good. Probably cheaper than Wooda as well.

I wasn't trying to score points, but, for Leigh it might be useful to note that "walking the site" is not normal practice at club sites, or C&CC sites or CLs and most of the admittedly few commercial sites we've used recently allocate a pitch. I wouldn't want Leight to turn up at a site expecting to ask the wardens if it's possible to stroll around at leisure to choose a pitch when we all know that, in general, it's not ("over here" anyway)

I think you can get some good views of Trewethett on the actual site details page plus the little video clip. It's possible to see the rise in the ground as it goes up towards the camping field but most of the pitches to the south are reasonably level.

Trewethett is similar to Cherry Hinton , Cambridge in that its got little side roads off the main path so you would be stopping , reversing, turning all over the place. Much safer, and more pleasant to stroll round the site. The wardens give pieces of pipe for you to place over the Marker Peg of the pitch you choose, so others coming close behind won't pinch your spot before you have the chance to book in. I did not have any problem levelling my m/l Ducato.

What ever the club site have a look at the its site map to give you an idea of the layout and where possibly you might like to pitch, this will be given to you on arrival as well.
Some people like pitches near/away from service points or toilets, some even take into account where the sun will be.
I agree that walking round a club site, and sites over here, is usually impractical especially when there is a queue of outfits waiting to get on, you'll just be holding others up unnecessarily. Even on a quiet part of the day, if someone arrives after you and you're blocking up the entrance you won't be popular.

Leigh - If you are able to choose a HS pitch on arrival at any club site you will generally not have too much (if any) levelling to do & changing pitch is done on club sites (after checking with the wardens). Trewethett Farm is a great location but the grassed area is sloping so will most likely require some levelling. Wherever you go have I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Some good advice Leigh. From the above, you can work out best pitches to catch the sun at various times of day, and you could ring and talk to staff about a pitch you might fancy. I don’t know the site, although have driven past and know the area quite well.
Just in case you would like an option, Venndown Farm is a lovely CL close by and great value for money. It has showers, loos and a swimming pool and spa pool. (Honesty Box for Pool, you pay and can dip in and out during day) On a quiet road, except at 12 noon when the race to get a pitch at Trewethett takes place😂. Easy to get to lots of great places.😁

You are welcome. All Club Sites have a Site map available. So do some AS (Associated Sites) such as Racecourse Sites. Useful to get an insight as to how the sites are laid out, where facilities are situated, and which way the sunshine’s on a particular pitch. You cannot book a specific pitch (yet😉) but at least you get a bit of an idea which pitch might suit your needs. Don’t hesitate to phone site direct to find out more.😁
Edit: if you decide to break up your travel down, can recommend Exeter Racecourse for an overnight stop. easy on and off onto main routes.

Best strategy at Trewethett is to go for a ‘economy pitch’ without EHU - who needs electricity anyway? That way, you’ve got a good chance of getting one of the best pitches at the top of the field with uninterrupted sea views and direct access to the coast path. Not sure how practical that is for a caravanner though? Long walk to the showers.
