in April this year i was heading to norwich with the caravan this meant me having to use the Dartford crossing . However as i drove through Dartford the access road  for the crossing was closed  no pre warning or re directions signs .so i had go back on myself and at the first roundabout i turned left an started to follow signs for the A2 .however as i approached CRAYFORD  i came across 7ft width restriction in the rd on my left was a Bus lane . the turning on my right was a dead end. so i drove past the width restriction using the bus lane . A couple of weeks later i got a penalty charge notice . i had 28 days to pay £130 or £65 if i payed within two weeks.. i went online and i made what they call a repesentation . they have 56 days in which to respond.  today i got a letter telling me that my case has been closed and no further action will be taken.Good to see someone in the council traffic department could see that i had no other oppsion .

I have read that if challenged correctly and with good reason most of the pcn are dismissed. I've certainly found this. It is just that most just pay up.

I'm glad it worked out great for yousmile

There are a lot of councils who send out these notices and only look at the legality if it is challenged. I assume the problem here might be that the width restriction is not adequately sign posted until it is too late. Glasgow has had a similar problem with lack of signposting some roads where only buses are allowed.

Oops - You have just reminded me that I had not paid for a crossing over the bridge with a return via the tunnel.

Tried to pay tonight but payment was refused.

I guess I'll be getting a PCN but problem is I am away on holiday for the next week. Oh dear.

That’s the problem if you are on holiday for weeks at a time. If you do anything wrong and you are filmed or photographed - and let’s face it- it’s the easiest thing to do- how do you know that a PCN has arrived? The internet has made things so much easier but it’s still not the entire answer.

Got home and found two PCNs, one for each direction of travel!

However had paid the money and got their receipt, albeit a tad late but importently before they issued the PCNs.

Hopefully they will call it quits.
