The South (still Beautiful!)
We went to see The South, the latest incarnation of the 90's group Beautiful South last night. And what a show they put on! Almost 2 hours of non stop hits and some new songs as well. I saw the original line up with Paul Heaton many times years ago and, although there's now only 1 member of the group left, they still put on a great performance. If you're a fan it's well worth going to see them if they visit your area.

I remember sat in the company of PH back in the day in Grafton pub, Newland area of Hull. You’ll no doubt know this area M👍🏻. PH had a great voice he was very unassuming in person, really nice guy.

Jacqui Abbot for me every time👍🏻

No Housemartins songs - would have like to hear Happy Hour again!
Alison did pay tribute to Briana before she sang Bell Bottomed Tear!
Edit - agree about JacquI Abbott - but so many of the songs just make it easy for the vocalists.Great stuff!

Since the show last weekend I've been playing back through the group's CDs and it's interesting how feelings change over the years. I'm just listening to "Painting It Red" which I didn't really rate at the time, but there are some fantastic songs on it..
(Try "Masculine Eclipse", "Baby Please Go" and "10,000 Feet". Great stuff!)

Me too, I've been shuffling through them on my daughter's Alexa.
Just listening to Blackbird on the Wire. Never really rated it but in older age it's pretty smooth but the lyrics sharp. I like it!
Also played tracks from The Housemartins and Caravan of Love seemed rather fitting for this forum and present world!

C of L?, I think Reet Petite kept it from the #1 spot in the charts.

It did get to No. 1 on the 16 December 1986 but just missed the Christmas number No. 1 spot being displaced by Jackie Wilson's "Reet Petite".
Warning to others!
This thread has resulted in the acquisition of several ear worms this last week! The latest is 'Liar's Bar'. What a strange track that was.

Humberside(rs)?, bad idea now binned👍🏻😊

I know-the two jags idea of a form of self rule has been binned once, there is no majority desire for it. Old Yorkshire it is not, Yorkshire is forward thinking not backward looking👍🏻😊.

Err not here!
Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincs and NE Lincs make up the old Humberside. Hull is a unitary authority (worse luck) with a very small boundary which excludes any affluent suburbs.
Most people here think Leeds isn’t anything to do with us as we’re not included in a Northern Powerhouse - just the forgotten end of the M62.

Live music is wonderful!
Tonight we're going to see Frank Turner for the first time. He usually does big standing only shows (and I can't manage that) - but tonight it's s smaller show at Lancaster with seats on the balcony. More than a bit excited!
