Hello,

Firstly thank you in advance for your help. Me and my wife are new to the Caravan scene and have a Abbey 217 for our first van.

I need some help ?

i am getting confused with all the weights and restrictions for towing and could do with some help.

My car is a 2012 BMW 520d saloon with a max permissible mass of 2235 and the caravan has a sticker stating 1300kg.

However my car weighs 1870kg

As i passed my test after the licence change i can only drive upto 3500kg. My question is What figures do i take to ensure i don't get pulled over.

I really want to use my car as my wife's Passat is getting old and fragile :)

Any help would be really appreciated

Unfortunately, it's the plated maximum values that count, not the actual weights, so in your case it's 2235 + 1300 = 3535kg which is over the 3500kg limit.

Trying to look into your future & I think I see a B+E test coming up.

Much cheaper than changing outfits & lasts a long time.
