Best options for Isle of Wight in September
We are considering a South Coast trip in early September and fancy a few days on the IoW. Undecided between club site or CL as some cl’s state they can provide ferry discounts like the club site. Main reason for trip would be Osborne House and other EH sites. Any advice/suggestions happily received especially if they save money ( being true Yorkshire folk)

If you ring the club’s ferry booking service you can book the Southland’s site and a Red Funnel crossing from Southampton at the same time. Booking the package will get you a hefty discount on the ferry while pitch fees are not usually expensive at Southlands. That way you get the known quantity of a full facility club site and a bargain package. It will suit a Yorkie type👍🏻😀
Nowhere is very far from anywhere else on IoW and the only traffic jams tend to be around Newport at busy times.
The Fighting Cocks pub/restaurant near Southlands is highly recommended.
Sorry, Hugh, I’ve just realised it’s you😀. Some roads aren’t that great for MHs and we hired a car when we went with our previous coachbuilt MH. I can find the details of the local company if needed. He was cheaper than Enterprise.

We had our main holiday on the IOW last year and loved it. We stayed at the clubs Southland site which was excellent a lovely site with a great village pub The Pointer Inn which was walking distance away and as TW says the Fighting Cocks just down the road was excellent for a meal. The site was handy for the Red Squiral cycle trail we used that a lot and cycled to Cowes. Sandown and Newport all on a great route. We booked our ferry through the club and all was easy and straightforward. Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip

If Osborne House is to be one of your main destinations you could try Waverley Park at East Cowes. The campsite will arrange a discounted Red Funnel crossing for you. The site is up a pretty steep hill so if you are walking anywhere you need to be capable of hills! Bus links to Newport which is the hub of IOW bus services. Osborne House has reasonable parking if the motorhome is not too large.

Red Funnel also do a discounted fare/site deal, sailing from Southampton.....or at least they did when we visited, Hugh

They still do, Nellie.

Just wonder if the deal through RF would be any cheaper than a similar one booked the CC?

I don’t know for sure, Nellie, but suspect not. Reduced ferry fares are available via many independent caravan sites as well as RF. I think only the site prices will vary and, when I’ve checked, Southlands was competitive because the pitch element of the fees is low.

More research needed, then!

Hello Hugh, this is a CL site we spotted last time, in a quiet sheltered spot with some nice walks. There are several others in different areas. We like Ventnor Botanic Gardens and Shanklin Chine, two more places to visit if you're on the IOW.

Hello Hugh , If you are Not of a certain age a bus rover ticket for a week or more is a must . It's great fun just hopping on and off at your leisure at different little hamlets /villages. Last time we were there we took the bus from one side of Cowes to Newport and back to other side of Cowes ,just 'cause we could .😀😀 .

Then Alverstone ponds wouldn’t be a good choice. The bus service in Alverstone is almost non existent.
