Thats OK then, I guess you have no need to charge your phone so long as you have the handbook with you?

Believe it or not, MT, there are places on This Sceptred Isle where mobi signals either don’t exist or fluctuate wildly with the weather. That’s the reason I keep the book in the van.

Often don't have a 'phone with me. Or if I do, it isn't switched on.

And anyway - my Nokia does not show web pages.

Totally agree but as I said above if you read these are now few and far between but obviously sods law says you will be in a black spot just at the time you need it mostwink.  But if I were in one I would just drive up the road till I got a signal then use it.

Many apps allow off line use so a signal is not really required anyway and of course pre-planning means 99% of the time yo know where you are going anyway or if not and you are looking for a site all the C&MC ones even CL's are listed on other apps such as Search for Sites etc. normally with up to date prices.

We don't use ours a lot either and certainly don't take it with us. Same with National Trust book and English Heritage.

Even if there is no internet signal details of CAMC, NT and EH are all available offline via their Apps. They don't update with the latest information of course, but then neither would a book.😀

We use the book to browse for sites in a particular area. We know that the prices are likely/probably wrong so when we book, we ask. I agree though that the book has become less useful in recent times. There was a time when you could rely on the contents, but sadly this is no longer the case. ACSI seem to be able to publish a book each year which contains correct prices for a lot more sites than CAMC. The Camping and Caravanning Club offer the Digital membership option at reduced cost. Perhaps the club should take a look at what the competition is doing. We pay for membership of CAMC solely for the CL's but find other aspects extremely poor.

If you are looking for a CL in a specific area and say for instance you want to be close to a particular beach,  or some other attraction. I find the map and book quicker than the cumbersome  and rather frustrating website. If it's a new CL as it often is in our case I do check approach roads and gate access via the web. Mainly because satnav is also rather frustrating. Or is it just me........?

Just use search for sites, centre the cross hairs on your chosen area and hey presto they all appear with reviews (if any left), GPS co-ordinates etc.

The App can be even quicker and you might find it interfaces neatly with you sat nav when you check for directions.

Only if you have a phone that can do all that, and quite a few of us do not.

Ok so I choose an area to visit by map select CL s zoom in and choose a CL best located then click on that to get full details. I decide this one not for me and want to get back to the map to look for the next best location ..... cannot do it! Yes there are close at hand CLs yes there is a list, if you go back to map you get the the UK!

Probably still missing something or my pad, laptop or self is obsolete?

i can see you are not well aquainted with the App JVB! You only neeed to be connected to the internet for member specific information e.g. CL phone numbers. All other information is available off line.

I don't understand why people have a problem with map search, open map, select sites/cl's or both and search, right click the site or Cl you want on the map, right click site name and open in new tab. You can open as many tabs (sites/cl.s) as you want to compare.

It's possible, but, as with the rest of the site is far from intuitive .... on any other site, 'ENTER' would start the search, but on the CC site it definitely doesn't.

In my opinion when searching for something SEARCH is more intuitive than ENTER.

On the iPad, on sites that support it, the enter button changes to SEARCH, after you input your search string.

It would be nice if it did this on the web site. Strangely, it does do it on the App.🤔

Sorry about the duplication of posts but the web site is playing up, I keep getting server errors causing confusions as to whether the post has been accepted or not. When is the web site going to be sorted to run smoothly for more than just a few days. It really is a disgrace for a business of the Cubs size to display such a poor performance. It would be nice to have an explanation as to what is going on?
