In the van, it's safer. If you are over vans MTPLM (max weight) shift some other heavy items to the car rather than the gas bottles. Just make sure bottle valve are off.

Good luck with your first trip, make a check list for hitching levelling etc it help until you have got familiar with the hitching and pitchingwink

Never carry Gas in the car! (Ventilation, Insurance labelling!)

The caravan gas locker is designed with the correct ventilation etc and labelled to let fire fighters know that it is there.

Agreed. There are regs about carrying gas in cars - even for personal use.

Just turn the bottle off and leave it in place in the dedicated locker in the van.

Another question is what else do you have in the gas locker as to what is the nose weight of the caravan.

Tin, I don't think ( but probably wrong ) there are regs about carrying in the car as 99.9% of people with gas heaters at home go and replace at DIY shops and suppliers. As long as its kept upright it should be ok and lots have mentioned in other posts over the years that they carry gas in the car to keep the nose weight to the limits of the car and van.
