More pitches for tents
I see the Club has increased tent capacity with more sites now accepting tents.
Recently there have been letters in the club magazine asking people to be aware of making too much noise in their awnings, suggesting that as the evening draws in it would be more considerate to move back into the caravan to help reduce noise as the awnings offer no sound insulation! How does the Club propose to deal with noise from tents, especially as some campers use TV's in their tents. Will sites be offering different areas? The club rule book refers to keeping noise down and within the confines of our caravans. I know people sleep in annexes in their awnings but they don't usually have music and TV's playing. I wonder how this will work when sites are busy?

I think you are probably new to club sites? Apologies if not.
On all the club sites I've been on that allow tents it has always been in a separate area and not 'inter-mingled' with caravans and MHs so it is never a problem even when busy.
Also these tents are not the sort of tents that have tv's in them, for one thing the tent pitches do not have EHU (I know that is not needed) and they are usually smaller tents than you might imagine on other sites.
I'm interested where you have seen that the club has increased it's tent capacity?
All users of club sites have to abide by the same rules regarding noise and in all my years of visiting club sites excessive noise is not normally a problem beyond tv noise, quite the opposite really - people have complained club sites are too full of boring people going to bed early.

Morning
We deal with issues on site as they occur, including complaints of excessive noise. Interesting though that the site I'm on this year in north Cornwall has twenty five tent pitches and has had for the last eighteen years. Looking back through the last ten years of site diaries there hasn't been one issue of noise from those tents. There have been though complaints about noise from neighbours caravans. I guess people socialise in awnings far more than they do in a tent? I really don't see an issue here
Corners, there a quite a few electric tent pitches available on the network.

Prior to owning a caravan we tented both in this country and Europe for over 30 years and only rarely had any issues with excess noise.
Possibly those in tents are more aware of how noise carries, where as in a van with thicker hard walls, folk seem to think they stop it. TV's, for instance, are frequently clearly audible from the site roadway. Therefore I would think noise from vans would more likely be an issue to tents, rather than the other way round.
Although where I have seen them tents have there own area. We were pitched next to tents at Morvich and they backed on to vans at Longleat. Therefore not always isolated, like at Lower Wensleydale, where they are About 100 metres away.

Most Club sites I have been to that also accept tents they are usually in a separate area so I would have thought the prospect of disturbance, either way, is minimal? If there is a problem obviously that needs to be raised with the warden. I don't think we should automatically assume that because the Club has decided to broaden its appeal by accepting more tents that it will create a noise nuisance.

Grrr😕 As someone who has used a tent on Club Sites for the last thirty years, it does irritate me when someone decides, makes insinuations, that tent campers are going to be noisy, or unruly, or be not up to the standards of other folks using the Club Site. Never ever come across excessive noise in tent area, but have heard some drunken revels (the middle class wine drinking type) in more than one awning.
It reminds me of the fool who strode into a Wardens office one time we were checking in, and demanded Warden do something, as someone next to them had unloaded some beer, and therefore might make a noise! Once the Warden had managed to keep his face straight, his reply was a model of diplomacy!😂

A couple of years ago, when on a site in France, a British couple complained about the French couple next to us having their TV in the awning. The Brits were the other side of them. The wardens had a word and the nice French couple duly obliged, by moving the TV indoors but leaving the door to the 'van open and carrying on watching it from their awning.
We were tickled, particularly as they used to invite us in watch the news and more importantly the weather forecast. They switched the TV off every night after the news anyway.

This post has made me laugh, the last site we were on (here in France) we had loads of tents near us.
The pitch next to us had 6, yes 6 small dome tents, each with 2 teenagers in them. The pitch next to that had 4 tents, a mix of younger children and adults. The pitch next to that was used as storege pitch for the pushbikes and little trailer buggies, also as a place they all sat and ate there meals. Noise from them was minimal, however the noise from the cabin behind us was something else
In the UK I've always found the most noise comes from 'awning parties' could be why we only tour UK during the winter months

Thank you all for your opinions and comments! Corner, I have been using club sites for thirty years. This was a debate started by neighbouring caravanners after the letters in our club magazine pointed out how members sitting in their awnings, get quite loud, especially when socialising. One member said if we are expected to all go and sit in the caravan/motorhome, what on earth are people in tents supposed to do? They are entitled to socialise as well!!! My letter was in no way complaining about fellow campers, we all use our awnings for the same things as people who enjoy using their tents do. Having listened to people chatting about the comments in the magazine, it is good to hear from all of you, which shows the majority of us are just happy to be on site with folk who share our hobby and tolerance is alive and well!

It is usually quiet but when there is something on there can be quite a number of planes per hour. Very long runway I remember, well for a small Bulldog it was.
I noticed it more at night when we were there.

That’ll be it then, I sleep at night 😀 We were there in October, nice site. We went to Wyatts Covert in September, now that was noisy! There’s a small airfield across the way, with several helicopter flights a day. That said, I’m not that bothered about aircraft noise. Working at Filton one gets used to it.

It wasn't just the noise at Wyatt's Covert; the odour of the aviation fuel wasn't too good either.
