Retired and now time for leisure

Hi we are Ellen and Chris from Peterborough just both retired (early 50's) and picking up our first caravan on Tuesday. We love the Norfolk coast so are planning to get going with the Norfolk Centre ASAP. 

Both new to caravanning except as a child I went with parents in the East Warwickshire club and the rover owners club  ...har but 40 years ago.

So please be gentle with us and offer advice if you see us putting the awning on the wrong way round.

    Welcome C&E.  Some great campsites in North Norfolk. 

    In Norfolk we have picturesque villages, fantastic pubs, massive sandy beaches and stunning wildlife.

    Don't be frightened to asked questions on here, there's plenty of knowledge not just on our hobby but other things too 😉 or on site. Folks on site are often willing to lend a hand so please ask.

    When I read the title of the thread, my first thought was.... that's what I thought too!....... but in practice, I still seem as busy as ever - that could just be my perception though! 😀😀

    Welcome Chris and Ellen. Go for it! I love Norfolk - still a rural county - even if the planners are trying their best to ruin it and call it progress! Hope you have many a great time and enjoy every minute.

    Hope you enjoy your new hobby.  During eleven years as site wardens (mostly High Onn and Marazion), the funniest ´beginners’ awning situation we had was when a couple came to us asking about hanging their awning curtains.  They said the awning they had bought had the curtain rails on the outside, and how would they go on if it rained.  I went to have a look and they had erected it inside out!

    so don’t make that mistake!

     

    Hope you soon pluck up the courage to venture further afield from Norfolk.  There is a lot to see and enjoy on the west of the UK.

    Welcome to the 'Early Retirement Club'.  I too retired in my 50's and found that in the first few years of retirement I was as busy as I was when I worked!  You now have the opportunity to see the world, or as much as you want to.  Once you have got the hang of this caravanning thing take the opportunity to spread your wings and travel out of season.  See the UK. A read of the overseas section of this forum will give you ideas of what we oldies get up tosealed.  Get annual multi trip travel insurance sorted (? our bank), car and caravan insurance for long overseas travel sorted.  You now have the freedom to b flexible in your plans (don't over plan go with the flow).  Explore those places you have always wanted to visit.

    Go for it and have a wonderful retirement.

    If you really like Norfolk there is nothing to stop you introducing the rest of the 'Mobile Holidaying World' to it's glories --  Write it all down, Publicise it and give it a name - maybe something like " The NS + F 250  " undecided ??

     

    { That might seduce some folks away from the NC500 perhaps  wink }

    P.S. --  That's the one problem with early retirement, after 25 years it does give one time to think up ridiculous ideas I'm afraid  embarassed

    Like DSB we find that after retirement we still have to find our free time. We are now prime targets for baby sitting and everything else. No idea why but the garden now needs twice as much work but we do certainly get more use out of the caravan so things are good.

    My friend's parents were in one of the Warwickshire centres all their caravanning life, beware your friends and family may not see you for awhile! Have a great retirement, sounds as though you have got things well planned already. smile

    Joining a centre is a brilliant way to start - you can make friends and have plenty of experience on hand to draw upon as you go along. Have fun laughing

    Welcome Chris and Ellen.

    I would think that early 50's must be a very enjoyable time to retire,  my wife and myself had to slog on until we were 65 but I think we have made the best of the last 12 years, and use our caravan as much as possible,  but have to fit things in with crown green bowling four times a week and sometimes more. But as David has already said,  there is a great big world out their as we have already found out.
