We are having a (second hand) mover fitted to our caravan on Thursday. I understand my current 80ah battery isn't up to the job. What do I need and where's the best place to buy from? Anything else I need to consider? Thank you.

Hi, maybe check the recommendation of the mover manufacturer.

I think ours is a 120ah, van is in storage,it was bought off ebay and delivered the next day.

I used a 75ah battery for 7 years. 5 of them with a motor mover, A 110ah is recommended but it just means that you can move a greater distance without running out of steam. How old is your battery and how far do you need to move? I have to move over 30m to hitch up and even after just a 45 mile drive in depths of winter had no problem siteing with mover on arrival.

I only use my mover for the final positioning on the pitch and hitching up. My caravan came with a 75 Ah battery and is still doing the job after 2 years. So I would consider if you really need to change it and see how you get on with what you have.

You will also be limited to what your  battery compartment can accommodate size wise and loose some of your payload if you fit a bigger battery.

Good point-ours is a low profile battery for that reason. I also bought clip on connectors as I used the van on a CL without EHU and need to swap over batteries fairly regularly-hence the 120ah hoping for longer life.

Thank you everyone! My battery is only a year or two old and goes on trickle charge in our garage over the winter. The mover is really for final positioning and getting the van back into the storage parking bay which is on grass and up hill.I

So it's not that my current battery won't work at all then? Wow! Great 👍

As is being said, battery capacity is of no relevance unless you need to move the van a long steep distance, its the ability to provide the required current that matters. I have used 80 Ah for 17 years, 12 with a 1900 kg van and a 1:14 sloping drive.

However, the battery needs to be healthy, a tired battery will give up supplying the current a mover can pull. Here a similarly knackered 120 Ah battery will do better than an 80, but neither will for long.

Should you need a replacement battery then I have been very pleased dealing online with Tayna Batteries, and Alpha Batteries. I feel buying from a battery specialist is a wiser option than buying from a caravan dealer, fresher stock and knowledge of how to look after the stock being important.

What you ought to buy will be dictated by any need to use the van off an EHU rather than a mover, using off EHU places the greater challenges and requires the more expensive build costs.

Both an 80ah and a 110ah will deliver the same power it is just that the 110ah will have more run time. If your existing battery was 6+ years old I might have said that it is worthwhile replacing but not at two years old.

    Hi everyone, I'm back....

so I got my secondhand mover fitted. its an enduro quattro.

It works absolutely fine on forwards and sideways, but we're finding that when trying to get the backwards motion it often clicks and jerks as if to try moving but wont move. it does this several times and occassionally we have to "push" the van manually to get it going. then it generally does go backwards.

It does this on all surfaces, and on the flat. any advice how the other functions can work ok but the one we need most is dodgy.???

I have downloaded the insruction manual and the unit was tested and ok on removal from sellers caravan.

the ariel is under the front internal seats near the front so we stand close to make sure it get a signal.

    Thank you for your advices
