Awning size

Hi everyone I’m relatively new to caravanning only got my lunar clubman sb 2011 last summer.

My question is how do I decide on awning size. I want something larger than a porch which I currently have. The info I can find says it’s a 1050 size but what size is that (13/14/15) as the ones in class ads seem to be in sizes rather than lengths.

also does it have to be that size or can I go for something between the porch and the rail size?

Hope that makes sense

thanks

If going for a full awning you must get the correct size or it will not fit properly.  The awning manufacturers web sites will give their size for your measurement.  There are many awnings these days which just fit along the level part of the awing rail and do not thread through the side rail.  Your size here is limited to the level length of the rail and position of the windows as ideally you do not want the awning to rub on a window -  although my Kampa goes over a window and in 5 years regular use has not marked it, but I say what is the ideal.

Yes, of course you can.  We have a van which is 8.1m shipping length (not sure of body length off the top of my head) and have a 3.90m wide awning - but it's also a full 3m deep (as opposed to the more usual 2.5m) which gives loads of space.  As above, just measure from the door to just past the rear window and that will give you an idea of what the van will accommodate.  Also bear in mind the length of straight awning rail available.
