Replacement tyres
Hi all, i'm looking to replace the tyres on my Bailey Barcelona S2 the existing tyres from new are Michelin green X 185/65r14 86T, I've been in touch with Michelin to see what there current equivalent is and they tell me they don't make "Caravan" tyres in that size so I'm looking for recommendations for alternate tyres that you guys have fitted (to a Barcelona)

Scubadogs IThis is isn't quite the answer to the question you asked but I hope that it is of use to you. I have always fitted commercial tyres with the correct load rating to my caravan (not a Bailey). Never had a problem.

yeah, Michelin also do a tyre in that size but they don't recommend it for caravans, I suspect as the van has "proper" suspension car tyre might be OK but I thought i'd ask as if the worst were to happen I think insurance companies are trying hard to get out of paying nowadays

Ditto. I just just asked two local independent tyre shops in town what commercial tyres in my size they recommended for given weight of caravan, what were the prices, what would they would charge to fit them at home, when could they get them, then placed the order.

Caravan tyres are usually commercial vehicle types and not specifically for caravans. You need the full rating from the side and most firms will then be able to quote you but it is often better to speak to them rather than use the internet. We found e tyres very helpful and as they come to you there is no problem getting in and out of tight tyre depots.

I got both of our caravan tyres changed last year. I just went into the local Watling Tyres with the spec from the sides of the old ones, and they ordered the correct replacements (commercial) and fitted them at our storage site. The only issue was that the previous owner had Tyron Bands fitted, so they had to take the wheels off the caravan and back to their workshop to fit the tyres. I had mentioned this when I booked. It was all done in a couple of hours.

Your caravan manual specification will tell you what tires are needed... Mine is 185/75 R14 96T, In english it means this:
185 = Tyre width in mm across the tread.
75 = aspect ratio (height from tyre inner rim wall to the top of the tread.
R = Radial Tyre 14 = Wheel rim diameter in inches96T (This is the important bit for caravans) 96 = the weight in KG each tyre can bear plus its speed rating in this case T = up to 118mph.
as caravans can only legally be towed in the UK @ 60mph S&T ratings are more than adequate.
To find the weight rating of the tyres you need without the handbook...
Look at the weight plate.. note the MTPL figure & divide it by the number of tyres that your caravan has in contact with the road.. then refer to a chart to calculate the correct weight.
