Any tips on removing polish?

I feel a bit guilty for posting this, because compared with some of the problems members have, this is trivial.

However - here goes.  Just after getting our new Knaus Starclass - I polished it.  Not that it needed it, but that's the way I am.  Wish I hadn't bothered!surprised

I didn't think - but down both sides is a large black decal - looks a bit like imitation carbon fibre.  As soon as I started to rub the polish off, I realised my mistake.  As it dried, it left a white /grey residue on the black bits and no amount of rubbing would get rid of it.

So far I have tried methylated spirit,  a pencil rubber (a tip from the internet) but that was only partially successful and then I applied a black trim polish but that hasn't really made much difference.  The original polish I used was Autoglym.

Anyone got any tips for restoring it back to black?

Thanks, Richard

Back to Black the product. It works on coloured plastics too.

Do you have the AutoGlym case of cleaning products? The tar remover removes the Super Resin Polish off seals, you could try that.

Autoglym Fast glass will do it.

It's what they recommend years ago.

Years upon years of polishing experience, I've spent whole weekends polishing the car, dont do it now, the shine never lasted long enough.

Thanks W&M - might have some in the garage (somewhere!).  Will give it a try and let you know how I get on.

A little petrol on a clean cloth works for me when I get my autoglym HD wax on a plastic trim. I would certainly contact Autoglym- they should have the answers.

I was thinking that many years ago I used a small bottle of rubbing alcohol from Boots for the same reason

Also used White Spirit carefully on a soft cloth.  Now use Fenwicks Wash followed by Fenwicks  Bobby Dazzler sometimes (gives it a bit of a shine) and a microfibre cloth to finish.  Hope you find something that works for you OK,

W&M - tried that but it didn't do anything! Think I will give AG a ring. Thanks anyway.

Have now tried everything that has been suggested - to no effect.  Just spoken to Autoglym - their first suggestion was Fast Glass (which didn't work) and then they suggested Intensive Tar Remover.  Just a bit wary about that on a plastic decal but I will try on a small area first.

    Thanks everyone.

    Dam!

Sorry to hear that, it works for me.

You must have really polished that van!😡

The only other thing I can think of would be WD40, never tried it on your problem,  but it is a versatile product and used in valeting.

I know it’s a few months since I posted this but I thought members might be interested in the outcome.

Having tried every single suggestion on here - and taken advice from AG - absolutely nothing worked - so I did the sensible thing, and forgot about it.

That was until the van went in for service, this week and I casually mentioned it to the Senior Tech at ALV at Tebay.

He disappeared and came back with some clear liquid in a container and a cloth and the second he applied it, every mark disappeared - and has stayed ‘disappeared ‘!

What was it - Tyre Shine! Don’t know which brand but there are plenty about.

Just thought this little tip might be of interest to some on here. I know of at least one other Knaus owner who has done the same as me and there might be others who will benefit.

use Fenwicks caravan wash/bobby dazzler in future you will never have a problem, and no polishing, simply wash & rinse, and a container lasts forever.
