Caravan -v- folding camper
Evening guys and girls,
I was just wondering if I could have some guidance on what to purchase.
We are interested in 3 caravans: The Elddis 304 SE, Opus Folding Camper and the Pennine Pathfinder.
We have experience with a 2004 Bailey Pageant which we owned for 4 years and previous holidays with parents who have been caravanning for years. We have no experience with folding campers apart from stepping into the Opus at the weekend.
We need something light due to downsizing our car, we also need 4 berth.
The Elddis seems to fit the bill though I do like the idea of towing something smaller.
What do you guys think between these choices, I know we ultimately need to do what suits us but we are very 50/50.
What happens to the clothes and suacepans etc in campers when you move around? Are they as durable as Caravans, do they have the same warranties? Likewise, how good are caravan warranties really? Are campers less to insure/repair/service?
Any advice welcome
lorne

It may depend on when you use it. If you go late and early season a proper caravan will be better if the weather turns cold and windy but if you stick to the main season and are prepared for the odd possible bad day then the trailer tent may work for you.
If the Eldiss size is a problem you could look at the Lunar Ariva or an Eriba or other pop top.

If you are happy with s/h think about folding caravans like the Gobur.

The arriva is only a 2 berth and most Eriba, I think, are quite heavy. Trailer tents are popular on the continent and seem to be very self contained with full kitchens etc. A couple next to us on one site had a number of add ons on theirs which made it it really spacious. They towed it with an Astra sized car.
