CL usage.

Notwithstanding the Club's stance, I would imagine that given central government's encouraging attitude to countryside diversification and support for rural communities, amendment of the Act would not be insurmountable. Personally I think that eight would be a good number, allowing a potential 60% rise in income whilst retaining a small intimate feel to the concept.

We’ve come across workers using the CLs and never thought anything about it. That is until we turned up at a site we had booked and been to before, to find two workers’ caravans parked on the MH pitches and all the other pitches taken. We were not happy.

Did you question the situation with the site owner? What was their response? If you'd booked a pitch surely there was one available, I can't believe that the owner turned you off the site.

I've transgressed several times in the past when moving house/ job. I always explained the situation to the CL owner and in the one instance I was there approaching the 28 days moved on. The family would join me at weekends and school holidays to go house hunting and getting to know the area. I have always seen it as one of the many advantages of a caravan. So far as I am aware no complaints were raised with the CL owner's, maybe as my job as 9-5 and I sometimes came back for lunch break.
I have not come across this but if one or several vans were each occupied by multiple adults using MPVs to do shift work and the CL owner approves, I would consider moving on to another CL. Is that what the OP experienced?

The original post was moved from the Story Section and we often find that original posters never return to check out the comments on their post. It might help if we had some sort of automatic notification system when posts are moved. It works well on UKCampsites.

Years ago we had a CL on the farm and a family from "down south" came in their caravan while house hunting. We pointed out that a house half a mile from us was for sale. They bought it and we became life long friends.
Sorry - not really to do with the OP, but it reminded me me of how we met our friends.

Some years ago my job was being relocated some 120 miles away.
If I wished to keep it I would have to move.
So I found a Cl near the new location and was told by the owner,I did not want the CL over to the left, but another pitch over to the right, near some others
Suited me as I was going to be there for a year or more.

We decided to try a CL again this year, despite being generally disappointed by overcrowding, poor facilities etc, in the past, simply as we also like the small out of the way locations. However, yet again we find that the owners have not really followed the spirit of the scheme. The toilet block, which was a single, all-in-one affair was also used by the staff using the units rented out on the farm and was very cold with a fan heater that didn’t seem to work. None of the reviews mentioned this although the site details did state that the toilet was not exclusive There was a wildlife pond as advertised but the grass leading to it had not been cut, neither had the area near the vans. Such a shame as the people are lovely and the location is superb.

We tend to use CL sites because in our experience there is no overcrowding (often 1 or more acres between 5 outfits) and because we aren't bothered about facilities (beyond the basic ehu and water)!
A few sites we've used have non exclusive loos/showers (Sweethope Lough & Ellerbeck Trout fisheries )but this is clearly indicated in the description, so it isn't something we'd complain about. Yes it is sometimes annoying when the grass isn't cut, but often this is to do with the English weather (my lawn is a disgrace currently but it has been too wet up North to cut it yet). My only gripe is when advertised facilities aren't available, but if I book a field on a farm I'm not expecting any luxuries.
I think that with CL sites you have to remain open minded: for some owners it is their prime interest (these sites tend to have well manicured grass and plenty of hand wash in the loos etc) but for others it isn't a major source of income and just something they offer: I for one am just grateful that they exist as club sites just don't appeal to me at all.
I realise this post is a bit off the subject of the original post but I just wanted to stick up for CL's and celebrate the fact that you never quite know what you'll discover with them 😁
