Norfolk (with tents)

Hello,

I fear that we may have to book something that is not a CL for the first time ever. I know there are some very knowledgeable people on here so thought it may be worth asking for help. We are looking at North Norfolk for the August bank holiday (nearish Holt) and my brother in law and his family would like to join our caravan with their tent. I have 2 dogs and they have 2 children. We have always used CLs to avoid busy sites as I worry one of our dogs may find a busy site too stressful so I don't want to be anywhere too busy. Seacroft looked like it might be an option but is fully booked for caravans. Do any of you lovely people know of any sites in the area that may be worth trying?

Are you a member of C&CC, Athel?  If so, I suggest checking their CS sites as you are more likely to find a tent friendly caravan site with them.

I'm not. I'm currently having a little look on their website but not finding it particularly user friendly.

We use a CS near Binham called Short Lane Farm. It takes 5vans plus tents. Has a loo and shower, which is basic, don’t expect tiled splendour, but it’s a very quiet site, with excellent dog walking direct from site. It’s close to Stiffkey and Wells. The owners also have a CL, but this doesn’t take tents, and to be honest the location isn’t as good. The farm isn’t occupied, and you call into Butchers shop in Binham to pay. Can be difficult to contact them, but we persevere as it’s a great site for us. I will see if I can find a contact for you.

Their website makes this one look good at times but, if you persevere, I think you might find the sort of site that will suit. It could be worth joining if you like what you see.

Thinking of the C&CC, I can recommend the CS called Creake Meadows at South Creake (not quite sure if that's near Holt?) Nice site with, I think I remember, 2 shower room/toilets. Also fresh eggs and other produce in the handy information hut. smile

An alternative might be Pine View Caravan Park near Holt - tents, children and dogs welcome - 15 caravan pitches so not huge, but not a CL or a CS so Club membership not required. It's not a site I know - I just quickly skimmed the reviews on UKCampsite and it sounded OK to me.

The owners are called Howells, they also have a CL called Fiddlers Hill Farm, so details are here https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/certificated-locations/england/norfolk/wells-next-the-sea/fiddlers-hill-farm/

You could contact them and explain you want Short Lane Farm as that takes tents as well. It’s basic, don’t expect mown splendour and pampering, but we originally found it when we were camping, and loved it enough to go back with caravan and later MH. Fabulous for wildlife, hares and foxes everywhere. It could be popular at Bank holiday. You can walk the adjacent field edges with well behaved dogs, so a great place and easy if you do have a dog with you. Check there isn’t a rally on, as they do occasionally host the odd one, but this was in a separate field.😁

Why not have your cake and eat it? Little Barney (Old Brick Kiln in name) sits adjacent to the caravan and camping site, Old Brick Kiln. Mind you, you may baulk at the CL price.!!! I've stayed at the campsite but not the CL.

There is a good CS whose name escapes me but found at the entrance to Burnham Market, a bit away from Holt I know.

The online website of "UKCampsite.co.uk" is a good "tool" for finding sites, of both Clubs and outside, often accompanied by a few reviews. Dare I say better for finding these sites than either club seems able to offer!

There is a C&CC  CS site at Cley. Rectory Hill Barns, virtually opposite the Sheiling CL. Gets good reviews and looked ok when we looked at it about 18 months ago. Holt is about 5 minutes in the car.

Try mill farm at wells next the sea. It's a Cl but also has an adjacent field for tents and any overflow vans. Near the town and Holkam beach, it's about 40 mins from holt. It is listed in the sites directory.
