Third party insurance

So it seems standard you are only covered third party while towing even if you are fully comp on your policy.

We have purchased a new(er) car and really want to be covered fully comp while towing.

Can anyone recommend any companies  that offer fully comp while towing please? Thank you in advance

Your car is covered fully comp when towing if you have fully comp insurance. It is the trailer that you are towing that is only covered third party by the car insurance during towing! The caravan is covered for damage to itself when towing under a separate caravan insurance policy of you have one.

Fully agree with that. That's one of the reasons why you insure your caravan to cover damage to it or total loss if damaged beyond  repair when towing.

I checked with our current insurer plus another and they both advised while towing, cover will change from fully comp to third party for the car. Will need to verify with them again

    From the money supermarket website.

"Once you’ve got to grips within the various weight restrictions, you need to think about insurance. Most comprehensive car insurance policies cover trailers, but usually only for third party liability. In other words, you would be covered for any injury to another person or damage to their property. However, your policy would not pay out if your own trailer or caravan was damaged in an accident that was your fault. Third party cover also excludes theft and fire damage."

You're asking the question wrong or are talking to someone that doesn't understand the question.

Out of curiosity I’ve just checked Direct Line's policy wording.

Under Liability to Other People (third party) it excludes cover for damage to your car and any trailer.

However, under Damage to Your Car (fully comp) it only excludes cover for damage to your trailer.

Therefore, a fully comp policy on your car provides just that but your caravan will only carry third party cover as others have explained.

The same as Churchill stated when I asked the same question 3 years ago.
