Southport RSPB parking area.

I live in Southport and have just read a piece in the local newspaper that may interest fellow motorhomers who plan to visit the area. Along our 'coast road' there is a large RSPB parking area which is currently free and un-restiricted. There are now plans to charge non-RSPB members £1.50 for up to 2 hours parking and £3.00 for longer than that. They are also going to put a barrier at the entrance that will be closed after 5 p.m. It is not clear if, once on the site you can stay overnight or not. It is envisaged the system will be in operation 'by the summer'. I hope this may help wild campers make alternative arrangements if visiting the area.

It's probably because it's affecting the parking rights of geniune RSPB members. Can't blame them.

"Wild campers?" are they in tents then which is the real definition,it is because of motor caravanners that want no cost (but all the facilities when needed)which is causing the rise in restriction good for the rspb

I am an RSPB member as well, so hopefully staying overnight will not be a problem. Thanks for letting me know, might visit Southport now.

Parking for camc members is already free at rspb reserves but the add of barriers to close it of at 1700 will stop illegal parking overnight hopefullywink

We've used that car park a number of times (with our car, not MH) when going cycling to Formby from there, if I remember correctly, there is a sign up already (or was last time we were there) saying the car park will be closed at 5pm, but there is (or was) no barrier!

Never seen any MHs parked there when we've been there, but then we've usually left by about 5pm, so I don't know whether MHs have been staying there overnight.

I can't remember seeing any signs forbidding MHs from staying there overnight, so it wouldn't be illegal IMHO.

Now the words "tarring" and "brush" come to mind; as well as "jumping" and "conclusions".
