Fire Alarm

Just returned from a trip in our new caravan to a loud beeping from the caravan (going on and off intermittently). We finally worked out it was the fire alarm, but we can't work out how to make it stop unless taking the battery out. I have looked online and it seems to be faulty and we will need to get another one.

I am wondering though if it could be caused by something whilst towing, we did drive through what appeared to be smoke from a vehicle on the way back, could this have caused a problem? Are there any other possible causes for this whilst towing?

Thanks

Laura

Have you tried a new battery?

I know that when I took the flat battery out of the alarm on the previous van it still sounded the alarm whilst the detector unit was within range. laughing

If it's just a periodic beep that will be a flat battery. Although new the battery may have been active for some time. Our dealer puts a new one in at the PDI and on every service, not all will.

If not the above then it is probably faulty. I would have thought it unlikely that driving through some smoke would result in sufficient contamination to cause a problem. If enough entered the van it would go off and then stop when the level reduced. Same as if you burn the toast. Unless it's a combined carbon monoxide one, they are fortunately not particularly expensive. Although you could ask your dealer to replace under warranty, if it's close, otherwise easier to just buy another.

taking the unit off the holder resets it as in changing the battery. turn anti clockwise and wait a few minutes and refit to holder, should be ok. We had the fire service fit some of these at home but the 10 year service ones as wife disabled and Carer company sorted it out, had a problem with one after 3 years beeping every 40 secs as though battery flat but after removing and refitting worked like new again. the manufacturer's did send a new one out just in case.

Yes, I would definitely concur and  agree with the new battery idea.
