I will be travelling to Abersoch North wales next week and my sat nav gives a route from my home  in the midlands, via shrewsbury, Bala by Llyn Cefyn, Trawsfynydd and on to Pwllheli.

It has been many years since I travelled through there and not with a caravan. Does anyone have any views of this route and how suitable it is for towing. The alternative would be M6, M56, A 55 which would add another hour onto my journey but would be a more straight forward journey on major roads. I normally prefer motorways as to me it's sit in the nearside lane, a steady 50/55 mph easy driving with plenty of service areas to take a break.

Your thoughts Please

is your sat nav caravan compatible, so it take the size into consideration when travelling through towns and diverts off weight limits and size. worth a thought. smile

Corona, you sound to be keener than I am to use the M6 motorway. For myself with no sat nav I would simply follow the well signposted A5 all the way from Telford to the Shrewsbury by pass and on to Llangollen and beyond.

Corona, we went onto the Lleyn Peninsula last year and went via Llangollen, Corwen, Bala and over to Trwsfynydd. Easy road (with a 7.2m van) with no problems. We stopped off for a couple of days at Coed-Y-Llwyn club site en route. Enjoy.

I would (do) go the first route proposed. Llangollen, Corwen Bala etc.  If you haven’t been for years.  There have been substantial  improvements at Porthmadog no need to pay 5p and go over the cob there is a new route  as there is a new Bridge at Penrhyndeudraeth.     But according to google maps the m6 m56 A55 is only 9 minutes slower but a lot more fuel.

Do you really want to go to Abersoch anyway?  It’s like Alderly Edge on Sea
