Hello all

Got a problem with my tow bar electrics. The plug keeps falling out!!!!!!

caravan has 13 pin socket, car has 7 pin. I have the adaptor connection but it’s making it too long and now has started to fall out while towing. A little annoying as you can imagine. I’m now using a bungee strap to try and hold together but it’s not ideal

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks graeme

Change/have it changed for a 13 pin euro socket.  Easy to do yourself or get a garage to do it, won't cost more than 1 hours labour and the price of the socket, less than £10.

See here;   Socket  Plenty of "how to" info out there on You tube and the internet.

Agree with Milo. We used an adaptor as we were changing our tow vehicle. Never had any problem with plugs pulling out, however it dropped down to drag on the road and wore through the caravan section of wiring, which had to be replaced. Unless you are imminently changing your vehicle, I would change the plug.

The adaptors that use cable seem to have taken over.  There were rigid adaptors available just after the 13-pin was started but they seem to have vanished.  Still available the "other way round" for 13-pin cars though.

If I see one in an auto-jumble I'll get it.

I have 2 adapters plugged together. One allows a 12N caravan to plug into a 13 pin car and the other a 13 pin caravan into a 12N car ..... just in case. But they only power up legally required lighting. This stems from a while ago when I needed recovering and the driver hadn't even heard of a 13 pin plug/socket so the caravan was towed without lighting of any description.
