Is it only for motorhomes or open to caravans also?

I am also considering giving it a try. The final decision will be made after the Motorhome National where I hope to visit their stand and have a chat with them.

You might consider giving this website a try, it has club sites, 5 van sites, private sites, pub stops, day and overnight parking, and even wild camping. I think there is an app too but I just use the website itself.. You can filter to suit what you are looking for. It is aimed at motor-homes for some of the filter options but not all. We use it more and more as it pretty much lists every available option in a given area.

For anyone considering visiting the North Cornwall area, between Perranporth and St Agnes we walked past (well actually called in!) the Miners Arms pub at Mithian which appears to have joined the scheme. No idea what they charge but it's a lovely old village pub - great beer and food - in a good area for the North coast. sealed

Yorkshire has quite a few pub based stop overs as well, not sure if part of Britstop scheme, but there is a beauty in Hutton Le Hole that has hookups, and we found a couple more when visiting Ribblehead Viaduct area. Both had hook ups and proper pitches, so might take vans as well.

Get in touch if you need anything Yorkshire or Northumberland based. History to die for in both counties, and we have done some lovely tours without touching a Club Site. 😁

I have been using Britstops for years but fear that now it is being rendered almost obsolete by search for sites.

Either way a great principle. Very handy stopovers.

The increase in UK "Aires" is also most welcome. Appledore is a fabulous location, Canterbury now over-subscribed but last year I found a delight in Norfolk, at Burnham Market. A brand new car park, portaloo in a corner, well lit, central for all restaurants and pubs. Well done to North Norfolk DC and a really welcome trend.

visit www.wildapricot.co.uk for a list (and populated googlemaps) of pub stopovers....

it also covers European wide Aires and camping.

try www.park4night.com for overnight parking (incl some sites, Aires, wildcamp, authorised car parks etc, etc)

many good references about these days.

If you join Britstops, the individual stops do not normally involve an additional fee (except for a few local authority carparks - e.g. in north Devon - which are included. The guidebook issued to members will indicate how many guest motorhomes can stay (up to 5 max) and any limitations.

As regards the actual stops, they vary in appeal, inevitably, but being able to stay overnight at a pub doing decent food is great.   Most of the stops are at pubs but there are farm shops, visitor attractions etc too.  Most are hardstandings, being car-parks, which is a winter bonus when many Club CLs, nice though they are, are either closed or sodden grass.

This will be our 3rd year with Britstops and we have nothing but positive praise. A great scheme, we've stayed at some great locations and pubs. We generally do a few nights then book into a Caravan and Motorhome site. Perfect combination for our Campervan.

What is also useful is the info on what's avail. IE sometimes theres grey/black waste disposal, electric hock up for a small fee etc. What works fir us is whether dogs are permitted. We were on our way home from a trip. We got delayed and needed to eat, but didnt want to leave our doggie in the van as it was pouring with rain, thunder etc which scares her. We used the boom to find a dog friendly pub even though we didn't stay over. Perfect.

    So yes, we'll remain members.

i joined last year but never had chance to use any of the sites so didn't bother this year which was just as well. My main concern with it was parking with my size of vehicle. For a smaller van I think it is a billiant system.  With a diminishing wish to take on foreign travel, I would be prepared to consider it again another year even with the larger van..
