But then, from what you've said in the past, you don't actually use club sites that often do you?  Amazing how many folk who don't use them still know so much about them! laughing

We pitched up on a non club site last year with the pitching system as suggested by the Poster. The guy next door parked so close to the van that his door touched our van whenever they were not careful and caused a few heated discussions. Hence I am quite happy with the club method.

Can't say that I can recollect meeting a caravan unit snob. I am sure that I must have seen one and may have been insufficiently wise, or judgmental, to recognise them. I Probably just thought them to be chuffed to have bought a new caravan. I will look out for lycra next time that I am on site

"From the caravining and motorhoming perspective a Unit Snob is the person or couple who have a very new and expensive caravan /tow car combo, or motorhome, who just seem to extrude smugness."

Phew! So with our 10 year old small caravan and 6 year old tow car, I'm guessing we don'the qualify then! Thank goodness for that! wink

Seriously, lunarcpl, I think you're either just winding us all up or, alternatively, far too concerned about what others on site have got or are up to. But I wish you luck wherever you go on holiday,  particularly those naturist sights (sorry,  sites) - not much call for Lycra around there I'm guessing!

lunarcpl, I think you need to take a chill pill, just get on with your holiday and don't worry about what others have got or are doing, unless it directly impacts on your stay cool

When, with a 50% contribution from OH I bought both the first 'new' caravan and first 'new' car that I have ever owned might I have been considered a snob?

Ah! It was the use of the word "unit" that had me lost.  In British English we seem to usually refer to an "outfit".

I now wonder what name is given to those who, firstly, observe other campers in such detail, and secondly, are bothered by what they see.  It does seem to go beyond the traditional "curtain twitching".

I'll raise you a year on each, Moulesy. They are exactly what we want - otherwise we would have something else!  I wonder if the permagrin of contentment can be seen by those who do not have it as "smugness"?

So gentlemen, I suggest to you, that mayby, just maybe, the problem isn't with me, but the group of you, who have been regular contributors to this forum and feel that your views are sacrosanct, and should not be challenged.

I certainly do not feel that I simply give my views.

After a quick check I have noticed that a small group of members, the ones that keep returning to this thread and commenting, have commented as a group on a large number of topics. This is the pack I refer to.

Makes a change to the usual suspects, but I am sure still against the CT terms and conditions.

As far as I can see folk have just been putting their point of view, which happens to differ from yours, Lunarcpl.

"This thread started to go pear shaped on about page five when I posted a reply to a comment by a member, I think who is called Navigator."

Actually, lunarcpl, I think the thread went pear shaped when it developed from what appeared to be a genuine query about pitching to a rant about "unit snobs" and, more recently "pack mentality". I assume the "pack" consists of those who've had the temerity to disagree with you. As one of those, I'll just leave the thread now it's turned into an insultfest! frown

Oh dear, Lunar. It seems it's everyone's problem but yours.

You've been around this forum for about 18 months so far but only posted four times (not once) prior to starting this thread. I’d have thought you’d have taken the opportunity to join in more. It's true that there are only a small number of regular contributors to this forum and you could be one of them if you chose but to term those people a 'pack' is offensive and in breach of the guidelines.

You are also right about the thread going downhill from page 5. I think the condescending, even insulting, tone of the post at 14.22 did it and was later compounded by the insults about fellow members.

As for our views being considered sacrosanct, that’s laughable. We do not all hold the same views by any means and frequently debate with each other.

This thread has not been good, Lunarcpl.

I need to point out that my only comment on Page 5 was in reply to Tinwheeler, who continued the civilised discussion.

As a clarification, my post on page 4 was the first to be removed - and it  was absolutely nothing to do with the OP. It may have taken the thread off track for a while.

    Sorry
