New motorhomes

What experience do people have of the time for motorhomes to be built? We ordered an Auto-Trail Imala at the NEC show in October and although the original build date was April, it has now gone back to mid May (due to parts shortage) Is this typical for all motorhomes, is it just Auto-Trail or is it something peculiar to this year?

I think it might depend on the model. We ordered a new Bailey in mid November 2018 and picked it up on 8th March 2019. That suited us as we wanted to swap in our old motorhome before it needed to be serviced and MOT'd which we managed with three weeks to spare. The only delay we have experienced is that we ordered a spare wheel and carrier and as yet this has not been delivered. We do have the gunge thing just in case!

We ordered our Roller Team Pegaso 740 at the NEC show in October and we pick it up next Wednesday. All those months of planning coming to an end and able to enjoy the new toy. 20 nights booked already and that's only taking us to July.

In 2017 we ordered a Bailey MH for an April delivery, which was delayed until May. Might be worth looking on Auto Trail forums to see what excuses other customers are being given, then you can judge whether your being given accurate information.

Most ,if not all manufacturers of L/Vs have dates that each model is expected to be going onto the production line,if orders for one  or two models exceed their estimates then other models could enter the line at a later date, hence making deliveries of some later

Our Autosleepers was three months early. We had to ask them to hold on to it until March when the new registrations were released.

I ordered at the end of October (T6 conversion) and picked up two days ago - van was delayed, roof was delayed.  Original date was early March so a couple of months delay.

There's a chap on the FUN Forum who had the same problem last week. He had ordered an Autotrail Apache 634 at the NEC but after his order was knocked back a few times he decided to cancel said order with Autotrail.

Autotrail seem to be really suffering with the quality of its vans so if I was you I would bin the Imala and go elsewhere.

    Good luck.

If it's a parts shortage this will be affecting other van makers, there are common parts to many vans, this is what happens in manufacturing, parts can delay things. We had several delays for a previous caravan, I didn't like waiting so long but we got there in the end. smile
