I can’t help thinking that a country where the majority are spoon fed via a few online clicks is a country heading for meltdown. The old maxim of use it or lose it applies to cognitive function as well..............

I don’t think anyone has suggested that the Club’s booking system is perfect, but for those who use it on a regular basis, it is fairly simple and a quick way of finding somewhere to stay. Based upon the multitude of different likes and dislikes that we all exhibit as individual touring outfits, with all sorts of holiday hobbies, it does a reasonable job of allowing us to search thousands of options (Club Site and CL) with ease.
Given the last improvements made to this website, I do look upon the recently trumpeted announcement of changes to bookings with a degree of trepidation.......
Not sure if this is a US interpretation by the way, that’s all just a stick to continuously beat a dog with to me. If you don’t like them, then don’t own one I say. The discerning will work out that allusion.......😂

Yes, I agree - if you know what you are looking for and where abouts the search system is simplicity itself and I struggle to think of why anyone should not be able to find a club site or CL meeting their requirements within a very short time (possibly slightly longer than 3 seconds though!

Hi Stewie,
Thanks for your post. I just wanted to advise that pitches are definitely not held back for non-members, but sometimes they are put in offset (off sale) for operational reasons or knowledge of extra long outfits coming in or accessibility requests. We always recommend if someone has questions about pitches to ask a warden.
I hope this helps.

Fully agree. Booking system appears to work fine for membership in general just now. Am a little concerned about the recent announcement to change it. Too much reliance on technology for me nowadays. Everything seems to be needed instantly.
Rowena - thanks for clarity - Reference the OP.

I know exactly what the club is about and what a CL is.
Why the dog quotation proves my knowledge of the club is beyond me.
You apparently have no understanding whatsoever of modern commerce or indeed modern society.
98% of businesses no longer take a cheque.
In some areas 60% of businesses don't take cash.
In hospitality cashless payment is now more popular than cards or cash.
More than 80% of tourism bookings are made by app bookings and are cashless.
The biggest advantage of this trend is for small businesses. Small independent food, fast food, craft, specialty, hobby, guest house, clothes, entertainment, and any other small sector business you can think of is embracing this technology. Most are tiny operations and have thriving businesses due to the target placement of their product right under the users nose. Now how could that be employed for CLs, I wonder.
Still I'm off to see how many CLs no longer exist as listed every month in the club mag. Wonder why the CL network is forever shrinking?

I know exactly what the club is about and what a CL is.
Do you know what a CL owner is though?
They are a multiplicity of individuals. To search for a CL in an area is pretty simple. Put in a postcode, select for things such as EHU, bus stops etc, etc, and search. Those CLs that want to embrace the internet have a website and some, that do choose to also have online booking. Those that don't wish to do so don't. Presumably the individuals choose the 'business model' that suits them. Some of these owners prefer telephone contact as they don't all have a smart phone with them as they go about their day or they choose to check e-mails etc at the end of the day.
Some CL owners want a deposit and the means that they choose to receive such a deposit varies and is to some extent dependent on whatever other business activities they may have. Some would welcome CC taking the bookings and taking and transferring deposits and some would not. They are not a financially integrated part of a corporate entity. They are individuals with individual circumstances.
I could go on and on but I will leave you that option

I would wonder what percentage of their overall income would be derived from the CL. Even if full most of the time. Given some of the prices charged, I would suspect many are not in it for the profit.

Just to throw in my twopenceworth - I am amazed at the high percentage of small independent businesses that DO NOT take card payments. (or cheques for that matter). Cash only. So embarassing if you want to buy a bag of chips or an ice-cream and do not carry cash.

Sadly, Easy, no joke. All but one of the chinese/indian restaurants around here take only cash.
I went into a large cafe in Kirriemuir for an ice cream and a coffee - cash only. "The card machine is broken". Yes, and covered with dust!
In the glitzy cocktail bar in Forfar the story was "We are waiting for the card machine to be connected yet". They opened in 2010!

Never a problem for me Nav. It is rare that I have less than £80 in my wallet. Presently £125 and all in fivers so change at ice cream van not a problem. £150 in drawer in front room to pay the tenner every 4 weeks for window cleaner and £25 a fortnight for grass cutting. £200 in sock drawer. When away £150 in both car and caravan is the norm - all in fivers

It's not access to cash, Easy, I just can't be bothered with the hassle of the medieval idea of carting around metal discs and odd shaped pieces of paper.

Some businesses do everything cash free, some businesses rely solely upon cash, most do a mix of both. But what is truly amusing is that some customers actually choose to limit their options........😂😂😂
And then tell us it is the way forward🤣🤣🤣
I seldom carry much cash nowadays, but usually have a few scheckels and groats about my person or car. For this odd times that crop up. Anyone come across a public convenience yet that allows you to swipe before entry (if you’ll pardon the pun!)?

There are plenty that let you "go" for free.

My small piece of plastic holds £thousands & takes up hardly any space & weighs grams👍🏻. I choose the 21st century😊

When touring the Western Isles last year, Cheques or Cash were the main means of paying for sites. Evidently folk were desperately trying to keep their Bank Branches open and were refusing Cards. Poor WiFi means that Card machines dont work all over the islands. A sign for rural areas without good broadband. In a lot of areas cash is STILL king.

Life ain’t that complicated ET, I walk past anyone who don’t do cards. I can also swerve the ice cream seller too👍🏻😊
