    Stagecoach Bus Company.

This has reminded me of a journey I made with them some years ago. The route was from Hay on Wye (Wales) to Hereford (England). I was staying at a village on the English side of the border about 8 miles from Hay. Using a bus pass we travelled to Hereford without problem. On return the driver said we couldn't use the bus pass and had to pay as the bus was going to Wales. "But we are not", I said, our stop is in England. After some time he relented and allowed us to travel.

So the moral is, as said earlier, check first. No doubt some drivers interpret rules differently.

Stagecoach have long had a history of controversy and unfairness. You don’t get stripped of the East Coast Train franchise if you are doing a good job. Many instances of unfair treatment of passengers.

One of the worst decisions ever to deregularise bus transport. In my youth buses went everywhere, at frequent intervals, at prices that ensured they were full. Cue privatisation, to “give choice and value for money” Now Stagecoach and First run everything that is essential at a big price, have declined anything they can’t make big profits from, leaving rural communities to fend for themselves ( some are good at it, others aren’t) and only London gets the kind of transport spending that makes it viable to ditch the car. Interestingly, we can’t blame EU for this as far as I am aware......🤔

Two things not  correct Stagecoach/Virgin handed back the East Coast franchise as to get it they had over priced their bid and it has cost then dear to hand it back, surprised

The rural bus routes have been taken off because the subsidies to keep them going have been withdrawn by the county councils ,where in the past before nearly everyone had their own transport, were not needed, several bus route have gone in Hertfordshire and as in the past when Beaching did the same for the railways (i have his report)it was not unusual for the service to be running empty(apart from the crewwink)

Okay I will rephrase. Stagecoach got their bid disasterously wrong, and had to hand it back.

The percentage spend per head on public transport in London versus public transport elsewhere in the country always makes interesting reading.......and possibly why it just isn’t practical for other areas to consider giving up cars. Even if you can take dogs........😁
