I’m going to view a 2002 Elddis Avante (2 berth).

I’ve read the CAMC advice on buying used caravans. Is there anything in particular I should be on the lookout for with this particular model?

Damp is always a prime concern. All models have their weaknesses but damp is no 1. If you can take someone along who can damp test it, that would be a start.

Make sure everything works as it should (ask for a demo) Also when was it last serviced. This is important from the point of view such as testing the 240v system, how old the gas hoses are and for gas leaks, serviceability of the towing coupling and stabilizer, Brakes and age and condition of tyres.  If it's from a dealer you should be OK but if privately with no service history it is a gamble.

    Good Luck

Having purchased a caravan last year and found out things afterwards I would defo check.

    1) Tyre conditions and age.

    2) If it has a motor mover make sure it works.

    3) Check all roller blinds.

    4) Damp, Damp and Damp. Get a damp meter and check including behind the curtains.

If they have not got it serviced recently get it serviced and checked out. As Milothedog said I got mine private with "I did it myself service" and when I got it properly service this week they found a few problems. Thankfully nothing serious, but it is a gamble and I wouldn't do again unless I could get it checked out before.
